"Are you scolding me for being late, puppy?"
I could barely contain the revulsion that surged through my veins. My eyebrow lifted sharply while my lips compressed into a razor-thin line. A harsh, mocking laugh burst from my throat before I could stop it.
I hadn't intended to laugh directly in his face, but this man had descended so deeply into his own twisted fantasy that he might as well have been tumbling down a rabbit hole. Unlike Nadia though, he wasn't a confused child finding herself. He was a fully grown man weaponizing his own damaged psyche against me.
Dennis's expression immediately crumpled into a petulant pout as my derisive laughter cut through the silence. It wasn't rage that flickered across his features. More like a spoiled child whose favorite plaything had malfunctioned.
"Dennis, you can't seriously believe I can just swap husbands like changing clothes."
