At first, Judith felt nothing but irritation when she saw her son return empty-handed. In her eyes, his failure to borrow even a few coins already proved his uselessness.

"Why are you still mentioning that vixen?" Judith snapped as she lay on the bed, her voice sharp with anger. "What can she do? Do you want her to go out and sell her body just to borrow money for us?"
