Chapter 20 - Chapter 20 The Hungry Sword

"This…"

York fell silent, looking at the photo, then continued his investigation.

From the photo, he felt that the dressing table belonged to the old couple, not something the Serial killer had found elsewhere.

Indeed, in the drawer of the dressing table, York found a diary and a stack of envelopes, which he immediately looked through.

He first checked the envelopes; some letters inside were already missing. Then he checked the diary, but only a few tattered pages remained. Yet, from those few words, York drew closer to the truth.

"..."

"Children are people too; they are innocent. Although their genes have changed due to inbreeding, no one has the right to harm these children for any reason. I believe my choice was not wrong…"

"Although I left the city, I found peace of mind. The children are very obedient now. With the careful guidance of Gray and me, they are now able to control themselves…"

"I got sick, and unfortunately, I also infected Gray…"

"I am very sad because we are too weak to leave here, and the children don't know the way, so we lack proper medical treatment…"

"Gray is dead. My breathing is uncomfortable. I've been bedridden for too long. The children are getting increasingly irritable because I don't play with them anymore…"

"Gray, I'm a little scared. I wonder if our choice was wrong…"

"..."

It ended there, with just a few short sentences, but York looked at the smiling old couple in the group photo before him, and his heart grew heavy.

He seemed to have uncovered the truth: an old couple, to ensure their children's survival or to prevent them from harming others, brought them here to live in seclusion. Unfortunately, the old couple fell ill and eventually died, and these uncontrolled children gradually evolved into the Serial killers… Thinking of this, York closed his eyes and made the sign of the cross, looking at the old couple in the photo. He had guessed correctly.

"..."

"Trace the source of the mission event."

"Reward: +1 point."

"..."

The silence returned to his ears, and York opened his eyes, walking towards the large bag. Although the contents were essentially dirty, he needed money for research, to buy more equipment, and to save more people.

There were too many people in the world who needed help, such as those in the community who lacked money for medical treatment… "OMG!!!!"

Outside, Jessie's voice suddenly rang out, followed by hurried footsteps, and then the sound of her vomiting.

York shook his head, picked up the large bag—which would have been heavy for an ordinary person—and walked outside. Everything in the living room was indeed unsettling, so it was no surprise that Jessie vomited on the spot.

York, having finished his task, didn't even look back and walked straight out of the cabin.

"Are you alright?"

Looking at Jessie, who was kneeling on the ground with her right hand on her ample chest, York asked casually.

"Cough!!! Cough!!!" Jessie, spitting out some saliva and liquid, managed to reply.

"I'm fine! Cough!!"

"Good. Wait here for me; I'm going to see if there's a car that can be driven."

York finished speaking and left, preparing to check behind the cabin, but Jessie forcefully stopped her vomiting, struggled to her feet, and followed him.

"Wait, Father, I'll go with you!"

She didn't dare to stay in this eerie place alone.

York was noncommittal, carrying the bag and leading her around to the back of the cabin.

As it turned out, the space behind the cabin was even larger, filled with more discarded cars, one after another. Just selling these scrap metal pieces would fetch a considerable sum of money.

Walking further, along a path next to the scrap cars, the two discovered another small cabin.

Looking at the cabin shrouded in darkness, and then at the small path extending deep into the dense forest, York's eyebrows twitched slightly. He seemed to have thought of something and strode over with Jessie.

He recalled a sentence from the diary: "too weak to leave." Combined with this endless path, York made a connection and kicked open the door of the small cabin in one go.

With a bang, the cabin was officially unsealed.

It was still deep in the night, and the unsealed cabin remained dark, but York showed a slight smile. Before his eyes was an intact old pickup truck.

"Father!" Jessie exclaimed excitedly from the side. "A car!!!! An intact car!!!!"

"First, check if it can be driven."

York was not as excited and replied, first glancing inside the car to find the key still in the ignition, then checking the fuel tank, which was still half full.

All of this meant that the car might actually be drivable.

York threw all his belongings into the back seat of the pickup truck, then got into the driver's seat. This was the final step; if it didn't start, he might have to fix it.

Jessie leaned over, resting on the open car door, her ample chest appearing even more prominent. Her tone was filled with the excitement and lingering feeling of survival.

"Can this car be driven, Father?"

York glanced at her, his breath hitched for a moment, and he immediately averted his gaze.

"It depends on whether the Lord favors us…"

With that, York turned the car key.

It proved that the Lord was indeed quite fond of Father York.

Vroom! The old pickup truck, which had been parked for who knew how long, began to shake… Finally, a beam of light appeared in the dense forest. The light quickly receded into the distance until it was gone.

Not long after, a group of uniformed police officers appeared, shouting loudly.

They held their pistols, swarming into the cabin, and with a cry of "Oh my God!", several officers immediately ran out, kneeling on the ground and vomiting incessantly… These scrap cars, combined with the dismembered remains in the cabin, ensured that this incident would become world-renowned, shocking all of America.

Outside the dense forest.

At the location of the Ford Raptor.

York glanced at the distant ambulances and police cars, then looked at Jessie, who had suddenly sat in the passenger seat.

"I heard your family sent many bodyguards. Aren't you going with your family?"

However, Jessie, who had already changed into fresh clothes, did not respond. Instead, she blinked at him, radiating a strange light he couldn't understand.

Seeing this, York was puzzled and could only continue.

"You are safe now; you don't need to follow me. As for the money you mentioned, just transfer it to my account as agreed…"

Jessie smiled and interrupted. "You trust us?"

Recalling the numerous understated luxury cars and bodyguards, York said calmly.

"I believe what I see; your family is indeed wealthy."

However, at that moment, Jessie suddenly straddled his lap, looking down at him with a hint of seduction and tenderness in her eyes.

"The transfer might be a bit late; I can give you some interest first…"

A moist pair of lips blocked his… York was instantly overwhelmed. He sighed inwardly, thinking, "This is truly an American specialty…" Thanks to Alex Bingfeng for the 100-coin reward!! Thank you for your support!

The review is very strict; adding "the Ford Raptor shook" was instantly flagged.
