Chapter 7: Gift of the Library

The old librarian's voice was calm, yet carried a weight that made my stomach twist.

"You know, boy, I am not the creator of this place. It was built by a being far more powerful than I, many times over."

I blinked, trying to absorb what he meant. The library itself felt alive, ancient, and yet purposeful—more than just shelves and books.

He continued, "This library has a function. When someone truly interesting arrives, it gifts them one or two newly created books most suitable for them. You, boy, are the first to receive such a chance."

My heart skipped.

"So… those two books," I whispered, barely believing it.

"They belong to me?"

"Yes. A gift. You may do anything with them."

Then, almost curiously, he asked, "Boy, why do you wish to be my friend?"

I didn't think twice. "Of course I will be your friend."

The librarian paused, seemingly dumbfounded by my blunt honesty. Then, with a subtle nod, he gestured toward the exit.

He guided me outside the library, walking with me and speaking as we went. Hours passed, but I didn't notice. There was something unusual about him—loneliness. Despite his immense power and knowledge, I felt a strange human connection.

Talking with him, I realized we were forming a bond.

Finally, he stopped and faced me.

"You, fate-less one, are connected to forces even you do not understand. Every person connected to you will be granted great fate. Bring them here as your friend, and I will help them."

Warmth filled my chest. "Thank you," I said sincerely.

The portal shimmered and disappeared.

I looked around the forest clearing, taking a deep breath. The library's words, its gift, and the weight of my new path settled over me.

I decided to train here for four months.

Of course, I sent a message to Miss Valentine, telling her I would return in four months. She would be fine—reassured

myself. After all, this opportunity was too valuable to waste.

The forest seemed calmer now, as if acknowledging my decision. I flexed my hands, feeling the latent power from the books.

My mind raced with possibilities. Rune magic, flame techniques, war arts… all in my hands.

The librarian's words echoed in my head: You have no fate. You can become anyone you want.

And I believed him.

This was no ordinary training. It was a chance to grow beyond the limits of mortals, to become someone capable of surviving in a world dictated by fate, magic, and blood.

The path ahead was long.

Difficult. And lonely.

But for the first time, I felt a spark of excitement.

Not fear. Not despair.

Excitement.

I had survived death once. I had cheated the role of an extra. Now, the world was mine to explore. To conquer. To reshape.

Standing alone, I looked toward the horizon. The forest wind whispered through the trees.

"This is only the beginning," I muttered, grinning.

My journey, my power, my freedom—it all started here.

The library had given me a gift.

And I was going to make sure it was worth everything.
