Chapter 121 -  Kubfu’s Training Methods

After that, Oliver took Kubfu around the house to familiarize it with its surroundings.

When they reached Oliver's room, they found Celebi playing a fighting game on the computer.

Over the past month, Celebi had exchanged quite a few of its abilities with Oliver in return for games. By now, it was extremely proficient with computers—if not for the lack of money, it could have freely bought and played whatever it wanted.

Kubfu's eyes were immediately glued to the screen.

The two characters fighting onscreen exchanged blow after blow, and under Celebi's control, the character moved with incredible fluidity. Flashy combos and powerful skills flowed seamlessly from its hands.

That kind of pure, close-quarters combat made Kubfu completely unable to look away.

Celebi quickly finished off its opponent, turned its head, and noticed Oliver standing there with Kubfu.

"Bi~ So this is Kubfu? And it even has Aura talent—now that's rare."

"You've seen Kubfu with Aura talent before?" Oliver asked.

Celebi thought for a moment.

"It was a very long time ago. I vaguely remember it was an Urshifu—the leader of its tribe. Its strength was already close to that threshold, so it left a deep impression on me."

"That threshold?" Oliver immediately caught the key word.

"You mean… a Legendary level?"

"That's right," Celebi nodded.

"That Urshifu was just one step away from stepping into the realm of gods."

Oliver asked Celebi to share more details about that Urshifu. Kubfu listened attentively from the side, clearly curious about this powerful member of its own kind.

Soon, Oliver heard an important detail.

"You're saying its combat style was extremely variable?"

"Yes," Celebi replied.

"Sometimes it was explosive and decisive—ending fights in a single strike. Other times, its attacks were continuous and unrelenting, balancing hardness and softness. It felt almost… split-personality."

Having spent plenty of time online, Celebi now casually used expressions common in human society.

Oliver fell into deep thought.

From Celebi's description, that Urshifu had clearly been attempting to combine the traits of both evolutionary styles, and had even achieved partial success.

But it sounded like something was still missing—it hadn't fully succeeded.

Perhaps that was precisely why it remained stuck at the Champion peak, unable to break through to the next realm.

In the blink of an eye, a full week had passed since Kubfu hatched.

During that time, Oliver successfully completed and published his paper on Kubfu.

Discovering an entirely new Pokémon species was more than enough to shock the academic world. While it didn't quite match the impact of his earlier Fairy-type paper, it still caused a considerable stir globally.

Meanwhile, Kubfu officially began its training.

The training regimen was selected by Oliver from the Urshifu clan's inherited techniques.

In the early stage, the focus was on tempering the body—what martial artists would call "forging the physique."

Following a special medicinal bath formula recorded in the inheritance manual, Oliver purchased large quantities of rare Berries and other precious materials. Every night, he boiled them together and had Kubfu soak in the mixture.

This medicinal bath not only relieved physical fatigue, but also greatly strengthened the body. It even had an effect on Fighting-type energy, locking part of it directly into the muscles.

At the same time, Kubfu possessed an enormous amount of Aura Power but lacked the ability to freely control it. Because of that, it practiced meditative breathing techniques every day, following the methods recorded in the Urshifu inheritance.

Almost every day, one could see Kubfu training in the backyard alongside Garchomp.

Although their training routines were different, it was obvious the two Pokémon got along very well. Occasionally, Garchomp would even spar with Kubfu—of course, only after holding back to an absurd degree.

It was during training that Kubfu's personality truly stood out.

It trained with extreme seriousness, never slacking off or sneaking breaks.

Unlike Garchomp—who trained hard for the sake of becoming stronger—Kubfu seemed to genuinely enjoy training itself.

Simply training made it happy.

Driven by this mindset, Kubfu followed an intense daily routine:

Physical training in the backyard

Meditation inside the house when exhausted

Meditation even while soaking in medicinal baths

Aside from eating and sleeping, it was almost always training.

After examining Kubfu with his Aura Power and confirming that its body was not only fine but growing stronger by the day, Oliver decided not to interfere.

And it was precisely because of Kubfu's astonishing diligence that Oliver realized—

He would need to accelerate preparations for the next stage of training.
