Chapter 120 -  Kubfu’s Two Evolutionary Paths

After Oliver's mother returned home, Oliver formally introduced her to Kubfu, making sure the little Pokémon became familiar with everyone in the household.

Then Oliver took out a Poké Ball and gently tapped Kubfu's forehead with it.

The Poké Ball absorbed Kubfu smoothly. There wasn't even a single shake—

the capture was successful immediately.

Right on cue, the system notification sounded.

"Detected that the host has successfully captured the Pokémon Kubfu."

"Reward granted: 10 Top-Tier Fighting-type Energy Cubes."

"Reward granted: Special Training Methods of Urshifu (1 copy)."

Oliver first took out a Fighting-type Energy Cube, broke off a small piece, and fed it to Kubfu.

Kubfu swallowed it in one bite without the slightest discomfort.

Clearly, its body was naturally extremely robust.

Being able to digest top-tier Energy Cubes right after hatching—even if it was only a small portion—was proof enough.

Next, Oliver had Gardevoir use Psychic power to collect all the eggshell fragments scattered around earlier.

Those shells contained a considerable amount of residual Aura Power, making them the perfect first meal supplement for Kubfu.

After preparing Kubfu's food, Oliver opened Special Training Methods of Urshifu in his mind.

Perhaps it was because he had already undergone multiple knowledge transfers—or perhaps because he had awakened Aura Power—but this time there was no uncomfortable swelling sensation in his head.

He absorbed the information with ease.

Kubfu—and the Urshifu line as a whole—possessed a strong inheritance-based culture. In the wild, Urshifu often lived in tribes.

This training manual was the result of thousands of years of accumulated combat wisdom, containing the most suitable Fighting-type training methods for Kubfu.

Over the millennia, some Urshifu had also been born with Aura affinity, and the manual even included specialized training paths tailored specifically for them.

Kubfu possessed a special organ in its abdomen that generated Fighting-type energy, much like a "dantian" in martial arts novels.

Through unique breathing techniques and mental focus, Kubfu could continuously strengthen itself.

For Kubfu with Aura affinity, that special organ could simultaneously store Fighting EnergyandAura Power.

This allowed its offensive potential to advance even further.

And within the manual, there was also a bold hypothesis related to this.

Everyone knew that Kubfu had two possible evolutionary paths:

Single-Strike Style Urshifu

Straightforward and domineering, pursuing a single devastating blow to instantly end the battle.

Rapid-Strike Style Urshifu

Balancing offense and defense, relying on relentless, flowing attacks that leave the opponent no room to breathe.

Normally, Kubfu could choose only one path upon evolution.

However, this manual—carrying the crystallized wisdom of Urshifu tribes over thousands of years—proposed an astonishing question:

Could both powers be mastered at the same time?

During evolution, Kubfu converted its Fighting Energy into a form aligned with one style, making it impossible to convert into the other afterward.

But—

If Aura Power were used as an intermediary…

Could already-converted Fighting Energy be transformed again?

Sadly, in thousands of years, no Urshifu had ever succeeded.

Thus, it remained only a theoretical concept.

Even so, this theory provided Oliver with invaluable inspiration.

Every Kubfu was unique.

And his Kubfu—

was uniquely gifted.

If anyone could make the impossible possible, it might very well be this one.

Perhaps he could first attempt switching freely between the two styles,

and then take it one step further—

Merging both paths into one.

An Urshifu Grandmaster Form.

Oliver was still lost in this exciting train of thought when the doorbell suddenly rang.

It was Mu Xue.

Her Pokémon had sensed an unusual energy fluctuation nearby, so she came to check it out.

Oliver's Milotic and Gardevoir had noticed it too—there was no way Mu Xue's Champion-level Pokémon wouldn't.

That said, Oliver suspected she might also be here to get a free meal.

Mu Xue's gaze immediately landed on Kubfu, who was sitting upright on a stool, eating obediently.

"What kind of Pokémon is this?" she asked curiously.

"I don't think I've ever seen one before."

"It just hatched today," Oliver explained.

"I checked—this species hasn't been discovered by human society yet. This should be the first one."

"You mean the egg you picked up from a Secret Realm and kept in an incubator?"

That was the explanation Oliver had given earlier.

"Exactly."

Mu Xue was surprised—but not overly so.

After all, she had already seen Celebi, a Pokémon unknown to humans, living in Oliver's home. Discovering yet another unfamiliar Pokémon didn't feel that shocking anymore.

"Your luck is unreal," she said.

"What type is it?"

"Fighting-type, for now," Oliver replied.

"I'll measure the detailed data later. I should be able to publish another paper soon."

With a brand-new Pokémon species and complete data readily available, this would likely be the easiest paper Oliver had written so far—

Announcing a Pokémon species previously unknown to humanity.

Mu Xue suddenly thought of something.

"A Fighting-type, huh? Want me to help you find a Fighting-type Champion to guide it? He's nearby on a mission."

Oliver thought for a moment, then shook his head.

Kubfu was appearing in this world for the first time. Even a Fighting-type Champion wouldn't truly understand its physiology or evolution.

At best, they could offer some general combat advice.

Those things could wait.

Once Kubfu grew stronger, seeking guidance later would be far more meaningful.
