"Are you lonely..?"
Kara squatted down beside the upreared tree; dazed, she glared at the same few branches, finding comfort. She unravelled the packs of chocolate bars she had seized from the torn-down market stall, it felt like a true blessing. However, a growing yet miniscule feeling bubbled deep inside of her, one that would diminish any chance of happiness, any chance of hope. She sat down besides the willow tree - the soil surrounding it was damp and uncomfortable; though, she had become conditioned to this.
Enjoying this new found treasure, she stood back up and embarked on her monthly voyage. She passed through a jungle of collapsed buildings, dirty underpasses and vicious forces. With every step she trembled, her heart pushed against the walls of her chest periodically. Though, she had grown accustomed to this.
Footsteps.. One after another. Careful. Calculated.
"Uhm- what was that?"
They say curiosity killed the cat, seemingly, Kara is now the cat. Kara froze, taking a moment to ingest the mist around her and to catch her breath. In the distance, movement was detected. She slowly closed the gap and quietly reassured herself. Animals and strays in this world weren't uncommon, but to see one so free and liberated, it sure intrigued Kara. A body of blonde fur laid down beneath the rubble, a foot followed a stomach, followed a head, followed two flaccid ears. Kara's view was obstructed due to the immense mist in this part of the city.
"Oh well- the worst that could happen is me dying-"
A small dog launched itself at full force, knocking over Kara into a withering bush. This dog, not larger than Kara's head, prepared for another strike. That was met with disappointment. Kara elegantly picked up this bewildering beast and scoffed; "Your name is Dawn. Ah yes- Dawn sounds good".
