Chapter 92: Alan: Objection Overruled
Edward and Alan no longer paid attention to the warm family reunion behind them, nor did they bother explaining anything.
For ordinary people, forgetting is the best protection.
He walked to the door, not bothering to turn the doorknob, and simply thought a phrase.
"Devil May Cry."
The next second, he reached out and pushed the door open.
The two stepped through, as if they'd never existed.
They returned to the office.
"Phew..." Edward let out a long breath, expelling the slight fatigue from the battle he'd just experienced.
He walked to a large glass display case by the wall, and Edward reached out, carefully placing the empty snow globe he'd obtained from Coraline into an empty slot on the case.
This snow globe had once imprisoned the souls of Coraline's parents; although the souls had now returned, as one of the "Beldam's" core magical creations, it was itself a pretty good trophy.
After doing this, he turned around, just about to say something, like suggesting using the "gourmet tablecloth" to get some late-night snacks to reward the heroes who'd fought hard.
However, he hadn't even opened his mouth.
A graceful figure, accompanied by a sweet scent, suddenly pounced on him!
"Whoa!"
Edward was caught off guard, feeling a soft yet firm force hit his chest.
He reflexively took two steps back, eventually losing his balance, and fell backward, landing heavily on the wide red leather couch in the center of the office.
The couch let out a muffled groan.
And Alan, like a successful hunting leopard, pressed her entire body onto him.
Her hands were braced on either side of Edward's head, her smooth black hair cascaded like a waterfall, and a few strands even gently brushed Edward's cheek.
The distance between the two was extremely close.
Edward could even clearly see his own slightly bewildered face reflected in Alan's bright eyes. Her breathing was slightly hurried, carrying a hint of post-battle adrenaline and an indescribable heat.
"Alan, you..." Edward was about to ask.
"Shh." Alan, however, extended a finger and gently pressed it to his lips, her action bold and direct.
She leaned down, her warm breath caressing Edward's ear, and whispered in a tone full of mischief and a hint of challenge: "You worked hard, my knight. Now that the battle's over, isn't it my turn to give out the rewards?"
Her voice was magnetic, every word seeming to gently pluck at Edward's heartstrings.
"Now..." Alan's gaze swept across the spacious and quiet office, a cunning curve forming at the corner of her mouth, "it's just the two of us."
The atmosphere instantly became charged and dangerous.
Edward blinked. He could feel the soft leather of the couch beneath him, and the incredible heat emanating from the body on top of him. He had to admit, Alan was definitely the type with fatal attraction—brave, fearless, direct, and full of wild beauty.
He was about to say something to break the spell, or rather, to go with the flow and enjoy this "victory reward."
Just then, an untimely, tearful protest suddenly rang out from the corner of the office!
"Sister! I'm still here! I'm still here!"
The voice came from the large dressing mirror with an ornate golden frame in the corner.
In the mirror, Maria's face, identical to Alan's but with a completely different expression, was pressed against the glass.
Her eyes were wide, filled with shock, indignation, and a hint of hurt.
She even "bang bang bang" pounded the inside of the mirror with her hands, trying to get the attention of the two outside.
However, her protest, to Alan who currently held the upper hand, clearly had zero effect.
Edward looked at Alan pinning him down, then glanced at the exasperated Maria in the corner, feeling a bit of a headache, but more so an absurd mixture of amusement and awkwardness.
He cleared his throat, trying to regain control: "Alan, uh... you should get up, Maria she..."
"She's fine." Alan interrupted him without looking back, her tone casual, as if discussing the weather.
"No, what I mean is, isn't this kinda inappropriate?" Edward tried to reason, "She's watching."
"Let her watch." Alan's reply was full of matter-of-fact confidence, "It's good for her to learn what 'taking initiative' means. Otherwise, with her shy and insecure personality, if the guy she likes gets snatched away, she'll just cry in a corner."
Maria in the mirror heard this and her face instantly turned crimson, as if her secret thoughts had been exposed. Her hands stopped pounding the mirror, but she still mumbled softly, "I... I didn't... Sister, you're making things up..."
Her voice was barely a whisper.
Edward was completely at a loss. He realized that, in certain matters, Alan's assertiveness and decisiveness were simply unstoppable.
He sighed, raised his hands, and made a gesture of surrender: "Alright, alright, you win. However, I still have an objection."
Alan's beautiful eyes narrowed slightly, looking down at him, the playful smile on her lips growing more intense. She lowered her head, her lips almost touching Edward's, and whispered in a breathy voice, word by word:
"Objection... overruled."
The moment her words fell, she no longer hesitated.
Her soft and warm lips precisely met his.
