Chapter 31 - lily

Ahmad: "Leave me… and close the door."

(He pulled his hand away.)

Arjun: "We still have 12 hours. Come in—we can do something!"

Ahmad: "Mine are over."

(He turned and quickly shot a zombie approaching from behind. More sounds echoed as zombies reached the floor.)

Lily stepped up beside Arjun and began firing at the ones getting too close.

Arjun: "But… when?"

Ahmad: "I didn't even know. I'm sorry."

(His gun clicked—empty.)

"Now go inside."

Sia: "Arjun, come inside!"

Lily kept shooting, but her gun emptied too.

Arjun: "But…"

(He was speechless—broken.)

Ahmad pushed Arjun inside, and Lily pulled him further in. Sia shut the door. Through the narrowing gap, they caught one last glimpse of Ahmad standing outside, eyes filled with guilt when a zombie from behind lunges on him from behind . His final, small, broken smile was burned into Arjun's mind as the door closed.

Loud banging on the door continues.

Then the screen cuts to black.

After some time, silence fills the room.

Arjun sits in a corner, head down, hands on his knees, legs folded.

Sia tries reconnecting the router to get Wi-Fi, while Lily sits on a chair, watching Arjun with sad, guilty eyes.

Sia: "Oh—got it… wait, password? Ugh."

She glances at Arjun.

"Are you going to help, or just sit like that forever?"

Arjun says nothing.

Sia: "Come on, we need to get out of here. I'm sorry for your loss, I really am, but we can't stop here. Hey—are you even listening?"

She walks toward him and reaches for his hand, but Lily gently stops her.

Sia looks at Lily, who shakes her head softly.

Sia: "…Fine. Continue your ceremony forever."

She mutters and climbs up to check the router for the password.

Arjun stays still.

Someone taps gently on his shoulder.

He lifts his head a little—blank, tired eyes.

Lily sits beside him with a diary and pen.

Arjun: "I don't want to talk."

He lowers his head again… then remembers. He looks at Lily, confused.

Arjun: "…Give."

He takes the diary, about to write—then notices what Lily already wrote:

"I also lost my sister."

Arjun stares at her, confused. Lily bites her lip, her expression saying I understand your pain.

Arjun writes:

"How? In this apocalypse?"

Lily nods, forcing a small smile

She writes:

"She came with me. On the first day, she turned… and I had to stop her myself. Every time I think about it, it breaks me."

Arjun reads it—her smile fades completely, her eyes heavy.

He writes:

"I'm sorry."

Lily slowly writes another line:

"Do you know what she told me last?"

Arjun looks at her.

She writes:

"'You will never cry thinking about me. I promise I'll give you the sweetest memories of your life.'"

Flashback – Night before the apocalypse

Lily's sister sits beside her as Lily signs with teary hands.

Lily: "What if I lose tomorrow?"

Sister: "Doesn't matter. You're doing this because it makes you happy, not for some medal."

Lily: "But what about the energy you and Mom and Dad spent on me?"

Sister: "That's not wasted. We cherish you the way you are — strong and brave."

Lily: "I trouble you so much… even for a tiny button."

Sister: "Hey, that 'tiny button' on your anklet? For you it's just a vibration. For me, it's my way of wishing you good luck before every shot."

Lily's sister adjusts the anklet vibrator on Lily's leg—the one she uses during competitions, activated by a small button.

Sister: "Just give your best."

She gently brushes Lily's hair. Lily smiles.

Lily: "Then I'll go practice with Sia. I'll give my best."

Sister: "Whenever you need something, talk to me."

Lily: "Yes."

Sister:

"Because I promise I'll give you the sweetest memories of your life… ones you'll never cry about."

She smiles warmly, and Lily smiles back
