Arlene's POV
This werewolf transformation is going to be harder than I thought. How did Warner and I go from nearly ending everything to this intense connection? My body has never reacted this violently to anyone before.
Not even to Warner himself in the past. Every nerve ending feels like it's burning while ice water runs through my veins at the same time.
I start to pull away, ready to tell him we should head back inside, when my body shifts unexpectedly. Warner scoops me up and carries me toward the house, but something feels off. The moment he opens the door, an unfamiliar scent hits me like a wall, and my skin erupts in goosebumps.
"Someone's here." I press my hand over Warner's mouth. He doesn't hesitate, lowering me quickly and spinning me behind him.
A gun appears in his hand, aimed straight at the front door as he shields my body with his.
