Warner's POV
Raw pain flickers across her face, and I catch the scent of her desperation hanging heavy in the air between us. She's looking at me with a fury that cuts deeper than any blade I've ever faced. How can I explain to the woman who holds the better part of my soul that I'm poison? That I've destroyed lives and taken others because I'm nothing more than a selfish bastard running from fate.
"I'm terrified of giving you whatever's left of me. I'd rather watch you walk away than see you look at me the way everyone looks at my father." I rise to my feet. "If all you want is for us to share parenting duties and be civil for the children, then fine."
"You're so certain you're some terrible thing I need saving from that you won't even try. It's the same as murdering your mate for power. At least your father achieved his goals."
