Arlene's POV
"No." I lift my hands where he can see them, showing I carry no weapons.
"How did you manage to get inside?"
"It wasn't simple. Warner has always been meticulous with security. I had hoped to avoid violence, but plans change," he shrugs with casual indifference. "My name is Hayward Danvers. I'm your uncle. We've crossed paths before when you were just a child. I doubt you recall much from those encounters."
"The man from the gas station. My father's Marine buddy mentioned," the pieces fall into place. That condescending tone he just used. He spoke to my dad the same way, like he was somehow inferior.
"Is that the story that bastard fed you?" he chuckles darkly. "I suppose it serves his purpose."
