Chapter 8 - Rufstang Mountain War (4)

Hours passed, and the adrenaline from the fight died down. After erasing traces of their presence, they slept in a tree, so as to avoid getting bitten in the night by wandering dire wolves.

The next day, they woke up, and all of them felt stronger.

[Recent battle have stressed your body beyond usual. Your potential increases…]

[Vitality +1]

[Agility +1]

[Strength +1]

[Perception +1]

[Charisma +1]

Four attribute points gained…in a single battle. Now that was impressive. Even back when he was just a trainee hunter in the academy, he had not gained attributes at such a fast pace.

'Are goblins growing faster than humans? It would make sense, given their low life expectancy…', Gurk wondered.

Taking a look at his status window, he smiled.

[Name – Gurk (Yeol Park) | Lv. 6 Goblin (70 / 150 EXP) [E]

Attributes:

Strength: 11 (↑) | Agility: 13 (↑) | Vitality: 11 (↑)

Perception: 10 (↑) | Mana: 2 | Charisma: 3 (↑)

Perks: Goblin Eyes (Nocturnal Vision) [E], Wilderness Instinct [E]

Skills: Swordsmanship (D)

Items: Wolf Leather Armour (E), Crude Stone Dagger (E), Wooden Stick (F)]

Besides Mana and charisma, all of his stats had reached two-digits.

He was growing closer and closer to the D-rank realm.

"Tell me, Pereuth, how did you become a warrior?", Gurk asked

Goblins, without a system, could evolve in different ways. Back in his days as a hunter, he had encountered D-rank goblins, but all of them held a different name.

The majority were goblin warriors, but there were others.

Goblin archers

Goblin shamans

Goblin rogues

And so on.

Human hunters would, upon reaching Level 10, choose a class.

But goblins did not have a system.

Pereuth titled his head, and smiled: "After reaching the threshold, we got to the White Lion Spirit, and it gives us a 'class' befitting our skills. Usually, we also receive the blessing at this time, but you all received it before the war. I guess there will be many new warriors after this campaign"

Now it all made sense.

Why there were always a spirit associated with large goblin tribes

And why most wandering goblins were capped to level 9.

Without a spirit, they could not advance.

That being said, the goblins around him were not very talkative.

It is not that they could not talk. Gurk was even surprised by their eloquence and intellect.

It was rather that they did not feel the need to.

Since it was likely for the best, Gurk did not press the matter.

The past battle reinforced his idea that the Fire Wolf Tribe might not be as strong as he initially feared. Perhaps Grunty had a good insight after all.

They might be stronger, and even have basic equipment.

However, the white lion blessing was too much of a cheat. 6 points of attributes was the equivalent of six levels in goblins' terms. Unless they had many more warriors, Gurk was confident that the White Lion Tribe would win this war, even if they were slightly less numerically.

"Wolf ahead", Gurk said

His perception now at an all-time-high 10 points, he could detect creatures far before others. Even Pereuth, a Lv. 12 goblin, had lower perception.

[Dire Wolf – Lv. 6 Beast (E)]

[Dire Wolf – Lv. 5 Beast (E)]

[Dire Wolf – Lv. 6 Beast (E)]

It could not even be considered a pack. They were only three. One female, and two male wolves, growling at a distance.

They were trying to size the group of goblins.

Armed, they were dangerous. Especially after the previous day's battle, they had grown in intensity, and equipment.

Pereuth was the first to act. He lunged forward, breaking the tension, and hit the weakest wolf. It seemed like his tactic was to get rid of the weakest to inflict maximum psychological damage.

Perhaps it was unconscious, but if it was the case, it was all the more terrifying.

Gurk moved forward too. Although his dagger probably made more damage, he sticked to his wooden stick. After all, only a weapon with a minimum of range could allow him to display his swordsmanship skill.

Gobnir and the others supported him or went to the other wolf.

Seconds later. The wolf were subdued.

Gobnir had sneaked behind the wolf, allowing Gurk to unleash a flurry of strikes onto the wolf, killing it by concussions.

The others were wilder, using their daggers and teeth to gnaw at the wolf directly.

It was a flawless hunt.

[You have killed a Lv. 6 Dire Wolf (E). You have earned 50 EXP]

It was not enough for a level up, but he could feel close to one.
