Chapter 25 - Chapter 25: Pirates of the Caribbean

"The weather here in the Caribbean navy is pretty good."

Since the movie's story starts when the protagonist, Henry, meets Salazar, I had some time. So I planned to adopt the concept of a nobleman and scholar from abroad. My backstory was set up that way. First, I changed into the suit I got from Konosuba. The clothing style was similar, so it shouldn't be a problem. Then I took out the [Gold-den-den] from my inventory. Since I only have gold ingots right now and no gold coins, it seemed it would be hard to use money in the Pirates of the Caribbean universe.

[(S)Gold-den-den] Shaking it produces gold coins. (If the user is not the owner, consumes luck.)

"Now that I have [Status Ailment Immunity], could I use this without the [Penalty Removal Coupon] and just use it without consuming luck?"

Since it's an EX ability, I thought it might be possible, but in the case of [Gold-den-den], it's not a status ailment but luck as the cost, so I wasn't sure. I also don't have any other similar cost-based items to experiment with. If I used it without the [Penalty Removal Coupon] and my luck got reduced, it would really be a tearful disaster. Since luck can't be increased with points, the bleeding from such a gamble would be too severe.

"Well, I have two coupons, so let's use one."

So I applied a [Penalty Removal Coupon] to the [Gold-den-den] and confirmed that (consumes luck) disappeared, then shook the den-den.

Thud! Tock!

"Oh~! It's coming out, it's coming!"

Gold coins began piling up on the ground. Once a certain amount accumulated, I put them in my inventory, shook again, and when more piled up, put them in again, starting a continuous grind. Like that, I was alone in the forest, holding the den-den and shaking it for about an hour.

"Damn! If anyone saw me, they'd think I was performing some ancient ritual."

After shaking for an hour, about five large sacks' worth of gold coins came out. I don't think I'll be short on gold coins now. Now, I headed to the village, used the gold coins to buy three male and two female healthy slaves to fit the noble concept, some clean clothes for the slaves to wear, several high-end suits for myself, and some groceries.

But there was one problem. Perhaps due to the era's culture, everyone's mouths smelled like shit. These crazy people had absolutely no concept of washing. Even people wearing fancy clothes had sweat dripping down in streams. The women were the same; the smell from their bodies mixed with perfume created a truly indescribable, foul stench that vibrated in the air. Even while walking the streets, I had to cover my nose with a handkerchief.

"Ah! Damn it, seriously! Europeans pretend to be all kinds of elegant, but I'm gonna suffocate from the smell."

I bought a large two-story house and furniture a bit away from the village, called the slaves, had them clean the house, then assigned them rooms divided well so they wouldn't be uncomfortable.

"You will now be living in this house. I'll be out often, so don't cause trouble, and if you run short of food, speak up."

"Yes, Master."

Spending the day like that, the next day, I took one (slave) servant and went to see the mayor governing the village. This was to get the female protagonist, Carina, out of prison.

"Good day. I am the scholar Jin from Russia."

That was my setting.

"Teacher Jin, welcome. But what brings you here?"

The mayor seemed to be in the middle of work, writing something down.

"It's nothing much, but I need an assistant. I hear there's a smart young lady here named Carina Smith. I was wondering if I could hire her as an assistant."

"Carina Smith? Isn't she the witch? No! She's currently imprisoned. And she'll be executed in a few days."

"I've heard that story too. They say she's an astronomer. She was drawing astronomy charts, so they misunderstood her using strange magic as witchcraft."

"Do you have proof?"

"There is proof. If you take the drawings discovered when Ms. Smith was captured as a witch to an astronomer, wouldn't you find out? In my opinion, it seems the village, having suffered much damage from pirates, needs a scapegoat."

Carina, being an orphan with no backing, must have been good prey. The mayor was slightly flustered but spoke firmly.

"Even so, I can't release someone whose trial is over and execution is scheduled."

It didn't seem easy with just words.

"I'm not asking you to just release her. I'll post bail."

I placed one gold ingot on the table.

"And this is for your trouble in writing a document guaranteeing Carina Smith's innocence."

I placed one more gold ingot next to it. Seeing the ingots, the mayor swallowed his saliva.

"And this is a donation I'm giving for the village's development!"

Finally, I placed one more gold ingot on top of the two in the middle, like a pyramid.

"How about it?"

The mayor pretended to think for a moment and said.

"Still, to get a person scheduled for execution out..."

He said that, but seeing his greed-filled face, it seemed he wanted more. Seeing that, I was dumbfounded, but since he'd get plundered later anyway, I decided to give one more.

"Ah~! How could I forget the fee for your official certification, Mayor."

Saying that, I placed one more. Then the mayor's face brightened, and he grabbed and shook my hand.

"Carina Smith is innocent. I'll process it for you right now."

As expected, in times like these, there's nothing money can't do. Thus, I received a certificate of innocence for Carina from the mayor and was politely escorted to the prison where she was held. Carina was writing something on the wall even in prison. Looking closely, she seemed to be calculating constellations. Probably to find Poseidon's Trident.

"Ms. Carina Smith!"

When I called, Carina stopped calculating, turned to look at me, was surprised, then blushed and stared for a long time. I was also surprised to see Carina, who was more beautiful than I thought. With distinct features and captivating blue eyes, she had the face of a typical Western beauty combined with a girlish innocence.

'She's more beautiful than I thought...'

As we stood like that for a while, the soldier who came to guide us cleared his throat.

Ahem...

"Ah! Right, I am the scholar Jin from Russia."

"Yes, I am the astronomer Carina Smith."

Though it was a prison, Carina slightly held her skirt and greeted me with proper etiquette, unlike the tomboy she was in the movie.

"It's nothing much, but I need an assistant. I've paid Ms. Carina Smith's bail on your behalf. And here is the certificate of innocence from the mayor."

When I showed the certificate, Carina was surprised and, as if she couldn't believe it, asked again.

"The mayor who had me declared a witch gave a certificate of innocence?"

"Yes, you are now innocent. Please come out."

As the prison door opened, Carina came out of the prison, bewildered.

"You probably haven't eaten properly while in prison. Let's at least go have a meal."

"Ah! Yes... The mayor released me... Is this a dream?"

Carina still couldn't believe it and muttered to herself. I took Carina to a high-class restaurant and ordered a meal. Then Carina seemed to have something to say, kept looking at me, and hesitated.

"Huh? What's the matter?"

"Um... I'm sorry, but I don't think I can work as an assistant. There's something I must find..."

"I know. But if you stay with me, you can find what you're looking for and, though you may not know it, find something even more precious."

"Huh? What do you mean by that?"

"Let's eat first. You'll understand gradually."

After eating like that, I bought some groceries and returned to the house with Carina. Then I told the servant to rest and guided Carina to her room. For the next few days, Carina didn't go out much from her room and just did calculations, but we became close by eating together and taking walks.

"Carina, I'm going to the village today."

"Yes~ Alright. And please buy me a marine chronometer."

"Got it."

Today is finally the day the village bank opens. And it's also the day it gets robbed by Jack Sparrow right after opening. I changed clothes, put on a mask, and waited nearby until the bank was robbed.

With the mayor's speech ending, the bank vault opened, and when Jack suddenly appeared, the soldiers fired guns on the mayor's orders. Using that as a signal, Jack's crew began moving the entire bank using ropes they had connected beforehand. The architecture of this era was utterly incomprehensible. That thing is being pulled.

Once I confirmed Jack dodging bullets and going between buildings, I immediately entered the vault, swept up all the gold ingots, coins, jewels, etc., into my inventory, and fled. Anyway, due to the vibrations, all the gold ingots, etc., fall outside, and Jack doesn't get a single one. It was much better for me to take them.

Afterwards, to keep my promise to Carina, I bought a marine chronometer and returned home.

"There was a loud noise in the village, what happened?"

"Pirates robbed the bank."

"There must have been many soldiers, and it was robbed?"

The soldiers were indeed idiots.

"Tell me about it. Oh right! Here's the marine chronometer."

"Thank you~"

Carina hugged me and gave me a kiss on the cheek. Getting a cheek kiss from someone of the opposite sex should feel good, but Carina probably didn't wash either, as her mouth smelled.

'Ugh... Damn! Mouth shit smell...'

I smiled, trying to look happy without revealing my inner thoughts.

Ding~!

You have obtained [(F)Acting].

The next day, it rained. Today was the day I could obtain one of the items I wanted. After robbing the bank but finding no money or jewels in the vault, Jack Sparrow was abandoned by his crew and went to the village tavern. Having no money to buy drink, he made the foolish choice to exchange the important item, his compass, for alcohol. It was a good opportunity for me. I sat waiting in the tavern for Jack to come.

After waiting a bit, Jack entered the tavern through the door, his whole body covered in mud as if he'd had a mud pack. After he exchanged the compass for alcohol and left, I immediately gave the tavern owner gold coins and purchased the compass.

[(A)Jack Sparrow's Compass] It points to what the owner desires most. (Cursing befalls those who betray the compass.)

This 'owner' setting was why I waited for this moment. It seemed a new owner is only recognized if the previous owner transfers or sells it.

"Phew~ Got one for now."

I could see Jack being captured by the navy outside the tavern, but I ignored it and returned home.

"Carina, tomorrow is the day to go see an important person. So let's go buy clothes together."

"Yes, okay. But who are we going to see?"

"Someone who will help with our work and is also important to you, Carina."

"You always say things I can't understand. Anyway, I get it."

The next day, I took Carina and all the servants to the village. I bought a ton of groceries, handed them to the servants, told them I might not be back for a while so take care of things, gave them emergency funds, and sent them back home. Then, with Carina, I went to a high-end clothing store and bought several outfits for Carina, both comfortable and fancy ones.

"Jin! How is this dress?"

"Oh~ It's pretty?"

"Tch! That's the third time you've said just that."

"Carina looks pretty in anything."

Carina pouted but then smiled slightly, seeming happy upon hearing my words.

"Why are you being embarrassing."

Then the female shop owner said something, sounding envious.

"You're really such a loving couple. Just seeing you makes me feel good."

Hearing that, Carina's face turned red as if about to explode, and she fanned her face with one hand as if hot.

"Ahem... The weather is hot today."

Carina wore the outfit she liked the most, and I sent the rest of the purchased clothes home. Then I stopped by a weapons shop briefly and bought a sword. We went to the docks, chartered a large ship, and began sailing, following [Jack Sparrow's Compass].

"Where are we going?"

As I remained silent, Carina, gradually becoming uneasy, asked me.

"To meet someone. I can't tell you right now. Just trust me."

After sailing for about three hours, we finally saw the 'Queen Anne's Revenge'.

"Gasp! Barbossa!" "We're all dead."

Seeing the 'Queen Anne's Revenge', the sailors were in an uproar. I went to the captain and told him nothing would happen, and to turn back immediately after we boarded the 'Queen Anne's Revenge'. The 'Queen Anne's Revenge' had also spotted us and was approaching rapidly. Once we were within jumping distance, I held Carina and jumped onto the 'Queen Anne's Revenge'.

"Kyaah~~!"

Barbossa's crew began rushing at Carina and me with swords, but after I quickly put many crew members to sleep with Sleep and knocked others unconscious with the flat of my blade, Barbossa urgently shouted.

"Stop!! Stop!!"

Only then did the crew put away their swords.

"Who are you? And why, when you could kill the crew, did you only knock them out?"

"I didn't come to fight. And because I want something."

"What is it?"

"Your sword!"

Barbossa, as if my words were funny, started laughing loudly. Then the surrounding crew laughed along.
