POV: Cassian
I stood alone in the library, staring at the contract like it's a venomous snake. Fifty million dollars. My entire inheritance. Everything I spent years fighting for, clawing my way up from nothing to prove I deserved a piece of what my father owed me.
And Catherine wants me to hand it all over.
I pick up the document, reading through the legal language. It's thorough, ironclad. Once I sign this, I'll have nothing. No trust fund. No business shares. No property rights. Just whatever money I've earned on my own, which is substantial but nowhere near what I'm giving up.
My hands shake with rage. This fortune was supposed to be my vindication. Proof that I mattered. That I wasn't just the bastard son Richard threw away. Every dollar represented a piece of justice for my mother, who died in poverty while Richard lived in luxury.
And now Catherine wants me to surrender it all. I pulled out my phone and dial her number. She answers immediately.
