Chapter 34 — She Lied to Him Twice in One Night

It was already past eleven when Mo Tingyan finally came home.

Wen Zhi had just finished her livestream and her shower. She was sitting at her vanity, quietly going through her skincare routine.

When Mo Tingyan pushed open her door, he wore his usual lazy, teasing smirk.

"Still awake? Why are you doing your skincare so late? Did you go out?"

From the mirror, Wen Zhi gave him a calm glance.

"No."

His steps paused for half a second. His face didn't change, still that nonchalant, roguish look.

"Oh? Really?"

Wen Zhi turned her head slightly toward him.

Their eyes met just as he bent down, leaned close, and reached out to pinch her nose.

"Got longer."

Wen Zhi moved away, avoiding his hand.

"Don't treat me like a three-year-old. And stop circling around the point. If you have something to say, say it."

Mo Tingyan straightened up and perched lazily on her vanity, speaking slowly.

"Nanzhong saw you at the Lehao Hotel tonight. Yet you just told me you didn't go out."

He clicked his tongue, as if deep in thought, his gaze scrutinizing.

"So let me guess… Why would you go to a hotel that late at night?"

He leaned in again, voice low.

"To meet a man?"

Wen Zhi frowned, annoyed.

Again with this.

But before she could speak, he suddenly chuckled, shaking his head as if amused by his own thoughts.

"No, that can't be it. After all, with a husband as exceptional as me in every possible way, any other man must look painfully inferior. So—" He raised a brow. "You don't want to tell me what you were actually doing?"

Wen Zhi hadn't told him because it was her business. She handled it herself, and the matter was closed. No need to involve others.

But since he asked, she didn't hide it.

"Lin Yue spread rumors about me to snatch the company's spokesperson deal, so I retaliated. I knew she was attending Jiang Hang's client dinner tonight, so I went to deal with her."

"That's it?"

Wen Zhi looked at him.

"What else?"

Mo Tingyan wasn't pleased.

So concise. So neat. Nothing extra.

"You didn't meet anyone else?"

"No."

Mo Tingyan's mood instantly worsened.

She clearly met Huo Ze.

So why didn't she tell him?

What was going on in that head of hers?

She lied to him twice in one night.

He stared at her for a few seconds, then looked away with obvious irritation.

"Fine. You must be tired. Go to sleep."

Without waiting for her reply, he strode out of her room.

From the mirror, Wen Zhi watched his back as he left.

Huh?

Was he… angry?

About what?

Completely illogical.

She shrugged and continued her skincare.

Outside, Mo Tingyan closed her door and stared at it.

No sound. No footsteps.

She didn't chase after him?

His brows knitted.

Was he… not obvious enough?

He thought about it, then turned and stomped back to his own room—

BANG!

The door slammed violently.

Arms crossed, he stood there.

That should be clear enough, right?

But five minutes passed.

Still no Wen Zhi.

Mo Tingyan's mood tanked completely.

He sat down on the bed, found Huo Ze's number, and dialed.

The moment Huo Ze answered, he was greeted with a full minute of Mo Tingyan's irritated, sarcastic scolding—

He didn't even get a chance to speak.

Huo Ze: "…"

Why does disaster follow me everywhere…?

Mo Tingyan hung up and went to sleep with a chest full of frustration.

But night didn't go easy on him.

For the first time in three nights, the nightmares returned.

He jolted awake in the middle of the night, drenched in cold sweat.

Rubbing his forehead, he frowned.

When he slept beside Wen Zhi, not a single nightmare.

Now they were back.

Was it because of his bad mood…?

Or was Wen Zhi really… different?

His mind spiraled.

Meanwhile, Wen Zhi slept wonderfully through the night.

The next morning, she made breakfast as usual.

By the time Mo Tingyan came out, it was ready on the table.

"Good morning," she said calmly, taking a seat. "Go wash up. Breakfast is ready."

Seeing her completely unfazed attitude, Mo Tingyan's face darkened even more.

He dropped his usual lazy charm and replied coldly,

"I'm not hungry."

Then turned around and slammed his door shut again—

BANG!

Wen Zhi: "…"

Is there something wrong with this man?

If he didn't want to eat, fine.

She moved his portion to her side.

No wasting food.

She ate both servings herself.

When Mo Tingyan came out half an hour later and saw the kitchen completely empty, his fury shot straight up.

He marched to her room, pushed open the door, and saw her watching short videos on her phone.

"Where's my breakfast?"

Wen Zhi didn't even look up.

"You said you weren't hungry. I ate it. No point wasting it."

Mo Tingyan stared at her utterly unrepentant attitude, annoyance simmering.

"But I'm hungry now."

She responded coolly, "Really? Well, I'm very full."

Mo Tingyan's eyes narrowed.

"Make me another one."

Wen Zhi finally set her phone aside, walked to the door, and looked at him.

"You think I'm your personal chef? Breakfast time is over. No exceptions."

Bang!

She slammed the door in his face.

Mo Tingyan: "…"

She lied to him, refused to coax him, and had this attitude?!

His frustration rose—

But then he paused.

Maybe…

She didn't even realize what she did wrong?

Sharply inhaling, he pushed her door open again.

Wen Zhi turned around, annoyed.

"What now?"

Mo Tingyan declared, completely righteous,

"I'm angry. Didn't you notice? At last night's dinner, Jiang Nanzhong—one of the airline's biggest clients—was there. He saw you. And he saw Huo Ze helping you. Why didn't you tell me?"

Wen Zhi replied calmly,

"What did Mr. Huo help me with? He just stated a fact—that Lin Yue wasn't suitable as the spokesperson—and asked if I was interested. I said no. That's not helping. I barely know him. Do you report every insignificant person you run into on the street to me?"

Mo Tingyan: "…"

Not familiar.

Insignificant.

…When she put it that way, it actually made sense.

So was he just being petty?

His expression loosened a little.

The playful arrogance returned as he folded his arms.

"Fine. I forgive you. But next time you see that man, you have to tell me. This is called—"
