Chapter 33 - Chapter 33-The Reason He Married Her

Chapter 33 — The Reason He Married Her

After the flight the next day, Mo Tingyan had business to attend to. He told Wen Zhi in advance and left directly from the airport.

Wen Zhi went home, washed up, changed her makeup and clothes, then rushed out to catch a taxi to the Lehao Hotel.

She headed upstairs. At the entrance of the grand banquet hall, she presented the invitation she'd managed to acquire through connections and stepped inside.

At the same moment—

On the second floor, in the suspended VVIP lounge that overlooked the entire hall—

Mo Tingyan sat with his long legs casually crossed, swirling a glass of red wine. His expression was bored as he listened to Huo Ze talk about work.

Suddenly, by the floor-to-ceiling glass, Jiang Nanzhong, who had been watching the crowd below, let out a surprised "Whoa!"

He turned back toward Mo Tingyan.

"Big brother, look. Isn't that my little sister-in-law?"

Mo Tingyan's eyebrow arched visibly.

He stood and walked to the window, wine glass still in hand.

Sure enough—

In the sea of people, the woman in the black dress with flawless makeup was unmistakably his little wife.

What was she doing here?

She hadn't mentioned anything about attending tonight before he left.

And when he saw several men turning their greedy eyes toward her as she walked past—

Mo Tingyan's gaze darkened instantly.

Huo Ze followed the line of sight, finally spotting Wen Zhi.

"What is she doing at this banquet?"

As Wen Zhi headed toward the group of Jiang Air senior executives, Mo Tingyan didn't look away.

"Go check," he ordered quietly.

Downstairs, Wen Zhi scanned the crowd and found Lin Yue—seated between several Jiang Air executives, smiling proudly as she chatted.

Wen Zhi deliberately avoided her gaze and circled around. When she got close, she heard Lin Yue's voice clearly.

"Leaders, Wen Zhi's conduct is terrible. She has no self-respect. She has a boyfriend, yet she still accepts million-dollar necklaces from rich men. This is… disgraceful behavior. If the company uses her as a spokesperson and this gets dug up online, Jiang Air will be humiliated."

The executives exchanged looks but said nothing.

Lin Yue was preparing to continue when Wen Zhi stepped out from behind her.

Lin Yue stiffened, startled. "Why are you here?"

Wen Zhi didn't spare her a glance.

She stood across from the executives, gave a polite nod, and spoke calmly:

"Good evening, leaders. My name is Wen Zhi. I'm here today because I have some materials for you to review."

She pulled several neatly bound documents from her small handbag and handed them to the four executives.

Lin Yue glanced at the cover—

And her face instantly drained of color.

Wen Zhi's tone remained crisp and professional.

"These are the pieces of evidence I found yesterday afternoon showing Ms. Lin Yue's involvement in extramarital affairs. Inside are chat screenshots where she insulted two wives—the actual victims—and also evidence of her requesting luxury goods from their husbands. A person with no bottom line like her is the one truly unfit to represent Jiang Air."

Lin Yue shot up from her seat, pointing angrily at Wen Zhi.

"You're slandering me!"

Wen Zhi didn't get angry—in fact, she looked almost serene.

"I'm willing to take legal responsibility for the evidence I present. You, on the other hand—can you provide evidence for the accusations you just made about me? And bear the legal consequences?"

Lin Yue panicked when she saw the executives' faces darken as they flipped through the documents.

Furious, she stepped forward, trying to shove Wen Zhi.

But Wen Zhi wasn't someone that could be bullied.

She caught Lin Yue's wrist in a firm grip.

"What's wrong? Out of arguments, so you're resorting to violence?"

Lin Yue gritted her teeth. "Fine, maybe I won't get the spokesperson role—but don't even think about getting it yourself!"

Just when the two were on the verge of fighting, a senior executive was about to intervene—

But Huo Ze suddenly appeared.

"What's going on here?"

The executives immediately stood, bowing slightly. The highest-ranking one walked up to him and quietly explained the situation.

Lin Yue quickly released Wen Zhi and turned her attention to the newcomer.

It was her first time seeing the new CEO.

She hurriedly rearranged her expression, making her eyes well up with tears.

"H-Huo President, it's not like that. Wen Zhi is framing me because she wants the spokesperson position!"

Huo Ze casually picked up the documents and skimmed them.

"If it's backed by evidence, then it's not framing."

Lin Yue insisted desperately,

"I wasn't a homewrecker! Those women's husbands were the ones at fault—they targeted me for no reason! I only said those harsh words because I was angry."

Huo Ze ignored her excuse and looked toward Wen Zhi.

Just as he was about to speak, his phone buzzed.

A message from Mo Tingyan:

"Stop enjoying the show. Finish it quickly."

Huo Ze glanced up toward the suspended glass lounge.

Smirking, he turned back to Lin Yue.

"Since these messages came from your own account, this is a real scandal. You're indeed unfit to be a spokesperson. Go home."

Lin Yue opened her mouth to argue, but Huo Ze dropped the documents back onto the table and looked at Wen Zhi instead.

"Wen Zhi, right? You came here to expose this because you're interested in being the spokesperson?"

Wen Zhi answered steadily,

"No. I have no intention of accepting the role. As long as it's not Lin Yue, I don't care who gets it."

She gave the executives a respectful nod and turned to leave.

As she walked away, she remembered how Huo Ze had glanced upward earlier.

She instinctively looked toward the suspended glass room too—

Why did she feel like someone was watching her the whole time?

But it was anti-peek glass—she could see nothing.

Huo Ze watched her departing figure, eyebrows lifting.

Quite the personality indeed.

He ordered staff to "escort" Lin Yue out, then returned to the lounge.

The moment he stepped inside—

He felt a sharp, icy stare from Mo Tingyan, cold enough to slice him in half.

Huo Ze shrank back instinctively and tried a grin.

"It's done."

Mo Tingyan didn't ask for details. His voice was frosty:

"My woman's attractive?"

Huo Ze laughed awkwardly. "She is, actually."

Mo Tingyan's gaze darkened dangerously.

It locked onto Huo Ze with murderous intensity.

Huo Ze suddenly felt like insects were crawling over him head to toe.

He leaned forward with a forced smile.

"Okay okay, big brother, I was wrong. But honestly—why so nervous? Unless… you're falling for the girl?"

Even Jiang Nanzhong chimed in,

"Exactly! Big brother, you've been acting differently lately. Last time I tried to shake her hand, you didn't even allow it."

Love?

Mo Tingyan let out a cold, humorless laugh.

Love had never existed in his world.

And clearly—Wen Zhi didn't need it either.

His voice dropped low.

"Cut the nonsense. Haven't you two forgotten why I married her?"

Jiang Nanzhong exchanged a look with Huo Ze.

Forgotten? No.

They remembered very clearly.

They were just afraid—

that Mo Tingyan himself might forget.

And if one day he really fell for Wen Zhi—

and slapped himself in the face with his own words…

Strangely, that was a scene they were both looking forward to.
