"You're hired! Your work begins tomorrow at 9 AM precisely!"
"Seriously?! I got the position?!"
The interviewer. Dismissed him with a wave as if she had more important matters to attend to. Lucas however felt this occasion called for a tribute, in genuine heroic style: coffee. Plenty of coffee. 'When I begin office life its going to be espressos and water. I need to condition my palate. Otherwise all the girls will mock me' he reflected, his hands quivering faintly with anticipation. Without a thought he requested three espresso shots.
"One, two three! Nothing to lose!" Lucas downed all three in one swallow. The sharpness struck him like a blow. 'Bitter! I actually enjoy it' he whispered totally unaware that half a day later this moment would return to trouble him, beyond his wildest thoughts.
The clock struck 3 AM. The day he started his office work.
Lucas continued to hum like a malfunctioning espresso maker. The three shots he took twelve hours earlier seemed to have established residency within his bloodstream.
Damn, damn damn. How could I possibly get through a 9-to-5 day like this? Surrounded by women? No sleep? No breaks?. Not just any women—the three most attractive girls, in the city are employed there' Lucas worried silently pacing nervously in his cramped flat. His mind ricocheted like a hyperactive pinball.
Alright lets be practical here. I am the storyteller. I'm meant to speak kindly about him but does this guy genuinely believe the three most attractive girls will even acknowledge him as the opposite sex?
To start there's Sabrina Cole, the aide likely to stay right by his side throughout the day. Clever playful self-assured. Certainly the kind of person who could destroy his world yet have him grateful, for it simultaneously.
Next we have Lily Carter, the kind, colleague. That's the image everyone perceives. Yet beneath that grin she might be concealing something different.
Finally the sleek and intimidating boss. She's not even worth discussing. Victoria Hale is the type of queen who dismisses rich attractive men from elsewhere without a second thought.. Lucas? Just a typical guy, no muscles, an ordinary face yet 'how do I manage to surpass those men?' Pshhh. The guy is absurd. It's astonishing I don't tire of describing him.
At this moment the sun was already up. Lucas hadn't closed his eyes for a moment. This lovely Monday morning symbolized the start of what he believed to be a ' chapter', in his existence. Yet reality was readying itself to deliver a wake-up call.
