Autor Note: From now on, Liam and Carrie's base is going to be called BlackSpot. I just learned that's what that place is called xD.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Liam was getting rid of the corpses when he saw two adults approaching from the forest in the direction of BlackSpot. He stopped dead in his tracks, frowned, and without hesitation ran toward BlackSpot with his heart racing, thinking of how to fix this since the place hadn't been properly cleaned yet—there was still blood everywhere.
In no time he reached the entrance area and stood there in front of the two adults to stop them from advancing further. He planted his feet firmly on the ground, lifted his chin, and watched them with a hard expression.
"Wait a moment." Liam said, analyzing the two adults, feeling like he had seen them somewhere before, and a moment later, after digging through his memories, he identified them and felt alarmed inside. His breath hitched for a second and he clenched his jaw.
Shit, this is a problem—these two aren't normal people, they're the psychic vampires from the movie Doctor Sleep, and from what he saw in the film they surely carried weapons.
Judging by where they were heading, their target was surely Carrie. When he searched the internet out of curiosity after watching Doctor Sleep, some people theorized that Carrie had the Shine. These two wanted to eat her. Thinking that, he couldn't help but feel an urge to kill them, but he forced himself to stay in control since it wouldn't be easy.
His fingers trembled for a moment over the pocket where he kept his knife, but he closed his hand tightly to steady himself.
Currently he wasn't different from a normal person. He only had a dagger with increased-damage effects on supernatural beings. He'd have to be smart to avoid dying here. Though killing them would benefit him because of the system, the risk was extremely high.
Liam suspected that Carrie had begun awakening her abilities after having her first period. In the end, that was only a theory; he couldn't rely on it.
"Kid, we just saw something very entertaining happening here a moment ago." said the one Liam remembered as Crow.Crow smiled with a crooked grin, tilting his head slightly as he observed him.
"They beat the crap out of those four others, I'm sure they'll be missed at home." said the other sarcastically. Liam remembered he wore the baseball glove in the movie.
"Kid, we have something very important to do here, get out of our way." Crow said, looking toward BlackSpot. His eyes sharpened, and some of his passive attitude faded.
"I won't move, there's someone very important to me there, and I know what you want with her." Liam said coldly as he placed his hand inside his pocket on the knife. His voice came out low, firm, and he stared at Crow without blinking.
"Oh, what a surprise that you know us, that's very unusual, but you can't do anything to stop us." Crow was slightly surprised Liam knew them, but brushed it off indifferently since something very important was close by.
"You won't leave here alive if you keep insisting." Liam said coldly. He knew that even if he died here, seeing his death would make Carrie react with an even worse rage than in the movie, and they would have no chance. Regardless, he wasn't going to stand still and let himself be killed. His eyes darkened and he loosened his stance, ready to move.
"Hahahaha, you'll kill us like you killed those kids? We're not that weak, kid." The fat one said coldly after laughing at Liam. His laughter echoed in the clearing, rough and unpleasant.
"Enough, kid, step aside." Crow said and advanced along with the other. Both began walking with firm steps, like confident predators.
With that, Liam had enough talking. He took the knife out of his pocket and threw it toward Crow while advancing toward the other with his right hand as if he were going to stab him, even though it held nothing. His movement was fluid, fast, almost instinctive.
Crow, surprised by Liam's knife-throwing ability, dodged the knife that was headed straight at his heart, though he didn't avoid it completely and received a small cut on his arm.He hissed irritably, staring at the wound with fury.
With that, he stopped joking around and reached for his weapon, ready to kill Liam once and for all.His hands moved quickly beneath his coat.
The other, seeing Liam attacking him with something that looked harmless, mocked him internally, making no effort to dodge as he prepared to kill Liam and reached for his weapon as well.He smiled with contempt, as if Liam were already dead.
Seeing he didn't dodge, Liam couldn't help but let a small smile appear. This smile alarmed the fat man—something told him he needed to dodge that strike, fast. But it was already too late; suddenly, a dagger appeared in Liam's hand with three runes on its blade, currently glowing an intense green. The air around the blade vibrated for an instant with a faint supernatural hum.
Seeing this, both psychic vampires were shocked and Crow shouted, "Damn it, dodge that, Barry," as he could only watch in desperation as the dagger stabbed Barry in the heart and continued making a long cut across his chest.
"Nooo." was the last thing Barry said before his body changed horribly, as if all the flesh melted off and only pale, old skin remained over his bones. A moment later he died, and his entire body dispersed into mist. The mist unraveled slowly into the air like smoke.
[DING]
[SKILL ACQUIRED]
Liam ignored that for now and focused on Crow, who was now enraged and pointing his gun at him. Liam had experience surviving firearms, he tried to dodge the shot and get closer to Crow, but he forgot something important—Crow had been alive a long time and was an expert in many things, including firearms.
Although he managed to avoid being shot in a spot that would kill him instantly—
"BANG!" sounded as Liam received the shot in the upper part of his chest near his shoulder.Blood splattered and Liam's body staggered.
Shit, I'm going to die, Liam thought as he fell to the ground from the force of the shot and saw Crow preparing to fire again. He tried to get up, but his arm wouldn't respond.
"Noooo! Aaaaagh!" a scream of rage and desperation echoed from BlackSpot.
A few moments earlier…
Carrie was still sitting, enduring the pain of her first period while waiting for Liam to finish. In that moment she began hearing Liam talking to someone outside—strange given the location—and she couldn't help but worry. She walked outside, ignoring the pain. She held her abdomen for a moment and hurried her steps.
A short time later she saw what was happening and saw Liam killing a man who moments later shriveled horribly, losing flesh, turning old-looking, and then disappearing into the air. This shocked Carrie, but she didn't have time to react because, as if in slow motion, she saw the other man shooting Liam, causing him to fall to the ground. Her eyes widened completely, her breath stopped.
"Noooo! Aaaaagh!" Carrie screamed in despair. Her voice cracked and her body trembled.
Suddenly Carrie felt something inside her pushing to come out, and her instinct told her to let it out—so she did.Her expression shifted completely—from pain to cold fury.
Carrie pointed her hand at Crow. Crow was shocked when he suddenly couldn't move; out of the corner of his eye he saw the girl they came for pointing at him with her open hand, filled with anger. In that moment, he couldn't help but feel fear. His face contorted, trying to move his muscles without success.
A moment later Crow was floating in the air, unable to move even a centimeter. Carrie, lost in her rage, instinctively knew what to do—she closed her hand tightly. Crow had only a second to scream in pain.
"Gaaah!" Crow felt an intense pressure throughout his entire body, and the next moment his whole body was crushed, all his blood spraying out in an instant, and a second later he turned into vapor.A wet crunch echoed, then absolute silence.
Seeing this, Carrie stood there breathing heavily for a moment, slowly calming down from her rage. Her hands trembled, her eyes glistening with trapped tears.
"Liam!" She ran toward where Liam was now sitting. She knelt at his side, almost slipping on the ground.
Seeing what happened, Liam couldn't help but smile with relief.
"Good job, Carrie." Liam said as he saw her approaching. His smile was weak but genuine.
