Chapter 48 - Chapter 48: Welcome to the Family, Little Snow Empress!

Chapter 48: Welcome to the Family, Little Snow Empress!

"Starting today, we have a new member in the family! Everyone, give her a warm welcome!"

In the living room, on one side of the couch sat Jiang Chen and Huo Yun'er; on the other, the cool and expressionless Little Snow Empress.

Only Jiang Chen clapped enthusiastically. Huo Yun'er, meanwhile, glared at the newcomer with open hostility.

Seriously?

Na'er had just left, and now there was another one.

Why did her ancestor always bring home little girls?

She wanted to call the police.

They could just throw the old ancestor in jail—and she'd happily sit in the next cell.

Unaware of Huo Yun'er's heretical thoughts, Jiang Chen took one look at the frosty Snow Empress and sighed.

Raising kids was truly exhausting.

At least Na'er could be teased and bullied a bit.

One look at the Snow Empress, though, and he knew—try that once, and his body might end up full of ice swords.

"You're sure you don't want to return to the Extreme North?"

Although she had re-cultivated as a human, cultivating there would be far more efficient than in the Douluo Federation.

Sure, she was easy on the eyes—but godhood came before beauty.

Her answer was simple, hands in her pockets and tone indifferent. "I will watch over you."

As a soul beast, she could easily live secluded in the frozen north for tens of millennia. But as a human, something had changed—she wanted to explore, to see the world.

Another side effect of taking human form, he supposed. Humans aged quickly, lived short lives, and burned with curiosity.

Jiang Chen didn't mind. Feeding another mouth wasn't a problem. He simply gave her the room that Na'er had used once before and never again.

When Snow Empress entered the room, she opened the wardrobe—and froze.

Inside hung rows of pastel dresses and cute skirts.

She stood there in silence.

Those… were clearly not hers.

So there had been another girl.

In human terms—this was what they called a complete lolicon.

No, worse than that. If he were actually human, he'd be serving prison time by now!

Her lip curled in disgust. Clearly, this so-called cultivator of "evil power" was rotten to the core. Even reborn, he couldn't hide his nature.

"Excellent! Wonderful!"

When the Snow Empress—now going by Xue'er under the guise of being Leng Yulai's disciple—formally joined Eastsea Academy, Long Hengxu was overjoyed.

With her enrollment, their victory in the upcoming Eastsea Tournament was practically guaranteed!

Class One, originally thirty students, now had thirty-two.

The seating changed accordingly: Tang Wulin and Xie Xie by the window, Gu Yue and Huo Yun'er behind them, and—on the final row, the "king's corner"—Jiang Chen and the new arrival, Little Snow Empress.

"Silver Dragon King?"

"Snow Empress?"

The moment Snow Empress saw Gu Yue, her body stiffened slightly.

Although the Extreme North worshiped the Ice God, she knew the truth: the first Ice God had been one of the Dragon God's nine children—the Ice Dragon King.

Most divine thrones in today's God Realm had originated from the fragmented domains of the ancient Dragon God.

As the Silver Dragon King, Gu Yue technically stood above them all, the true sovereign of soul beasts—a "Master" to whom all high-ranking beasts should answer.

But in practice, only the Star Dou Forest acknowledged her authority, and even that was mostly due to Di Tian spreading her legend.

After all, she'd spent eons buried beneath the Lake of Life, rarely appearing to anyone. Without Di Tian's tales, who would even know of her existence?

Still, why was she here, masquerading as human?

She didn't even need to become a god—she was one.

Confusion flickered in the Snow Empress's clear blue eyes as she glanced between Jiang Chen and Gu Yue.

"Why are you staring at me like that?"

Jiang Chen felt unnerved by her piercing gaze. Then a crisp, unseen voice echoed in his mind—the Snow Empress speaking via spiritual transmission.

"Who is that?"

Jiang Chen rolled his eyes and told her everything—Gu Yue's grand plan to destroy humanity.

The Snow Empress fell silent.

Destroy humanity?

Even when humans had over-hunted the North, even when they'd wounded her personally, she'd never considered total annihilation.

If she had wanted that, she could've wiped mankind out ages ago—back when they barely had a single Titled Douluo among them.

But now? Humanity had grown too strong.

Wiping them out was impossible—and foolish.

Besides, in recent centuries, relations between humans and soul beasts had improved immensely.

Even she had to admit—the creation of the Spirit Transmission Towers (or Snow Emperor Towers, as she called them) had saved countless rare soul beast species from extinction.

Now they thrived again, protected and studied by humans.

The truth was simple: the world had changed.

For beings like herself, species borders meant little. Soul beasts preyed on each other; conflict was natural. Without human cooperation, they'd of long starved.

At least with humans around, beasts grew fat and safe—pampered, even.

Sure, they'd lost a bit of that primal ferocity, but was that really so bad?

That was why she allowed the Snow Emperor City to house only young cubs. Once they matured, she expelled them—to preserve balance.

Hunted to extinction once; now overpopulated to the point where many begged to become soul spirits.

Soul beasts flourished like never before, yet their supposed "Queen" wanted to destroy it all?

Jiang Chen only shrugged. "Who knows what goes on in her head."

A cold, imperious voice suddenly sliced through their telepathic exchange.

"Do not use such petty tricks in my presence. Discussing me as if I cannot hear? Insolent."

Their private conversation had just been hacked midstream—turning their chat into an awkward three-way mental channel.

Snow Empress blinked, mortified.

Caught in the act!

She quickly bowed her head respectfully. "Greetings, Lady Silver Dragon King. I apologize for any offense."

Gu Yue remained seated, expression unreadable. "It's fine. It wasn't directed at you."

Snow Empress nodded meekly. Seven hundred thousand years old—and yet, compared to this being before her, she felt like a child again.

With her talent, even surviving the next heavenly tribulation would be impossible. Turning human had been her only path forward.

Still… to think a soul beast of her stature could be humbled like this.

Meanwhile, Gu Yue's thoughts turned inward. How dare Jiang Chen speak so disrespectfully about the Dragon God!

Even doubting the Dragon God's decisions was blasphemy.

He didn't understand—the Dragon God was infallible. His judgments perfect. His decree to curse the soul beasts with divine tribulations must have had a reason.

To doubt the Dragon God was to doubt herself, his heir.

She clenched her fists.

Clearly, Jiang Chen was just a fallen traitor—a beast unworthy of understanding divine wisdom.

Her golden eyes shifted toward him, shimmering with open disdain.

Jiang Chen glared back. "Hey, woman! You know it's rude to look at people like trash!"
