Austin's POV
My heart pounds with relief and fierce determination. She's not rejecting me because of who I am or because she doesn't believe in the mate bond. This alliance contract is just another obstacle, and I have months to tear it down piece by piece.
If negotiations fail, I'll call in every favor owed to my pack and bring hell down on her brother's territory. But I'd rather find a solution that keeps our packs united through our bond. We're fated mates, destined to be together for eternity.
"What should we tackle first? Campus tour, textbooks, or food?" I ask, tightening my grip when she tries to slip her hand from mine.
Instead of releasing her, I lift her knuckles to my lips and press a lingering kiss there, holding her startled gaze. "Keep your hand in mine."
"Everyone will assume we're dating," she whispers urgently.
I arch an eyebrow, giving her a look that clearly says 'exactly.'
She huffs in exasperation but stops trying to pull away. Victory tastes sweet.
