Austin's POV
The strangest thing about spending an uncomfortable night in a hospital bed is how it can still rank among your best nights ever. Having your mate wrapped in your arms while your wolf hums contentedly to keep her settled until her own wolf grows strong enough to respond makes every ache worthwhile.
Dr. Billy's morning arrival finds Lara still deep in slumber, though even the doctor can detect Jenny's steady purring resonating through the room.
"Nothing heals quite like the mate bond," she observes, entering to review the overnight monitoring reports.
Lara draws a slow breath and Jenny's purring shifts to a gentler tone without ceasing entirely.
"How are you feeling this morning, Alpha Lara?" Dr. Billy inquires.
