I observe my mate perched on the bed's edge, wearing that patient smile he reserves for my most difficult moments. His warm hands massage my enormous belly, swollen with four growing pups. My stomach has expanded beyond recognition, leaving so little space that you can actually witness the outline of tiny bodies shifting beneath my skin. Sometimes a foot kicks outward, other times a head or bottom creates visible bumps along my stretched abdomen.
These little troublemakers clearly favor their father over their mother. The moment Percy's palms make contact with my skin, they settle into peaceful stillness. Usher's deep purr reverberates through our bedroom with such intensity it seems capable of shaking the walls, yet somehow my restless pups find this soothing rather than the constant discomfort I endure.
