9.1 contact
Within the first month inside the wall, a few engineers completed the unfinished communication system, restoring contact with the emergency networks in the residential sections and facilities of the OctaCore's Main Area. For months, no signals were received.
On day 186, a signal was detected at the communication center in the eastern section during Monica Kastner's shift. Monica was the daughter of Professor Kastner, an engineering professor on the self-formed Council of Scientists and one of the engineers involved in building the communication system. She also participated directly in the communication team.
When the monitor in front of her flickered, Monica adjusted the dials and knobs to stabilize the interface. As the signal strengthened, a girl's voice came through, speaking excitedly: Hello? Can anybody hear me? Hello? Hello?
Monica immediately called her father, who contacted Egon and two other engineers to assess the situation. By the time Egon arrived, the team had already been communicating with the girl and her group long enough to avoid an awkward first encounter. Through these interactions, the team collected stories and information about the group of survivors. Egon planned to present the findings to the Council once a complete picture had been compiled.
However, by day 190, the group missed their scheduled communication, and the girl failed to check in. Since then, no further contact has been established with the survivors.
