Chapter 29 - Chapter 31

Lu Yi was by no means soft-hearted—he never spared any enemy. It was clear this time he intended to take revenge.

Before Natasha arrived, she had obtained a copy of the Special Forces intelligence from Nick Fury and found a very useful piece of information about Jason.

Natasha didn't know whether Lu Yi truly understood Jason's situation, but given Lu Yi's strength and the fact he called her name the moment they met, she decided to test him.

An agent must make the right judgment at critical moments.

Since they couldn't catch Lu Yi, they might as well try to intercept him where he would pass. Success would be ideal, failure wouldn't be worse than pursuing him forever.

Natasha's judgment was correct—unfortunately it was correct in the worst possible way.

The fighter jets simply lacked the firepower; no matter what they tried, they couldn't stop Lu Yi.

By the time Lu Yi reached Lake Yakari, they were still en route.

Lake Yakari—a plain name; there are at least eight hundred places like it in the United States. As with most of them, it featured nicer scenery, denser vegetation, richer water resources, and fewer people.

Other than that, nothing seemed special.

But Lu Yi knew there was something odd here.

Long ago this had been a secret military base. Colonel Stryker had conducted an extremely secret experiment here to study mutants and develop X-weapons. Due to certain incidents, Wolverine—trained to be an X-weapon—had turned on them and, together with his allies, destroyed everything. The place was abandoned, and Stryker became a lost cause.

Later the military, impressed by Wolverine and another subject's power, found the long-missing Stryker and restarted operations here—believing "the most dangerous place is the safest place."

They built an underground complex beneath the site. It was more secure than before—an ironclad fortress designed to prevent escape.

But even the strongest walls will one day be broken—and today was that day.

Boom!

A figure fell from the sky at over twenty times the speed of sound and slammed into the ground like a missile. A crater—like a meteor pit—formed at the impact point.

Everything around the crater was affected: the shockwave bent trees, rippled the once-calm water, and cracked the ground.

Yet the culprit was unscathed. He stood in the pit, glanced around, then casually strode to a crushed steel access tunnel.

He reached the tunnel, wrapped his oversized hands around the steel, and—almost effortlessly—ripped it open with a metallic screech.

He widened the narrow slit until a person could pass through, then entered. His footsteps on the steel echoed like a chilling drumbeat all the way to the far end—enough to make the guards on watch tremble.

People in the underground base immediately noticed and moved to defensive positions.

Armed personnel and several controlled, weaponized mutants assembled to surround and suppress the intruder. They stood at the end of the tunnel, staring into the dark mouth of the passage, waiting for the figure to appear.

Step… step… step…

Footsteps drew near. The tension grew unbearable.

Finally, a silhouette emerged. Someone shouted, "Fire!" and everyone opened up.

Bullets poured out, but the figure was unaffected. He advanced step by step, unhurried, as if nothing could touch him.

At first they thought he wore armor like Tony Stark's, but when he reached them they realized he wasn't armored at all—completely naked, relying purely on his body to resist the hail of rounds.

These men had worked in the base long enough to accept strange things; they recovered quickly and ordered the weaponized mutants forward.

Let monsters fight monsters.

Four grotesque forms—one almost animal—stepped out to engage the intruder.
