Chapter 7 - CHAPTER SEVEN — THE TRUTH BETWEEN THEM

The train burst out of the tunnel into open tracks, city lights flashing past like broken stars. Aisha's pulse still hadn't slowed. Daniel hadn't let go of her hand.

"Daniel… what aren't you telling me?" she asked softly.

He looked away, jaw clenched.

"It's complicated."

"That man knows us," she pressed. "He wasn't guessing. He came for a reason."

Daniel finally met her eyes—and the guilt she saw there made her breath hitch.

"He came because of me," he said quietly. "Not you."

Aisha's stomach dropped. "What do you mean?"

Before he could answer, a sharp beep from Daniel's phone cut through the air.

He checked the screen—and his expression darkened instantly.

"What is it?" Aisha asked.

He turned the phone so she could see.

A single message.

No name. No number.

Just two words:

"You're next."

Aisha's breath caught. Her fingers went numb.

Daniel immediately put his phone away. "Aisha, listen to me. I can protect you, but you have to trust me."

"Protect me from what?" she whispered.

The train slowed as it approached the next station.

Daniel looked at the doors, tension tightening his shoulders.

"From the people I walked away from," he said.

"And from the one who didn't forgive me for leaving."

The train stopped.

The doors slid open.

And standing on the platform…

was another hooded figure.

Waiting.

Watching.

Right at their exit.
