Sai Ji hit SPIN.
The Golden Gacha above the Hall of Origin exploded into motion.
Blue light flashed.
Common.
Purple followed.
Rare.
Then gold erupted across the sphere like a miniature sun.
Legendary.
The crowd of new players around him gasped.
Someone shouted.
"NO WAY!"
Sai Ji leaned forward inside his VR rig, heart hammering. One spin. That was all every new player got. One spin to decide whether their life inside Aetheria Online would start as a hero… or another background extra.
The golden light intensified.
And then the world broke.
The gold didn't fade.
It shattered.
A crack tore through the spinning orb, spreading like lightning across its surface. The color drained from reality itself as something darker bled through the fracture.
Not black.
Void.
The Gacha sphere collapsed inward, folding into a point of impossible gravity.
Players screamed.
The marble floor of the Hall of Origin warped like melting wax. Player avatars stretched into glitching smears of polygons. The floating crystals flickered violently.
System music distorted into a low, grinding hum.
Then a red message tore across the sky.
CRITICAL ERROR
Asset ID #666 — [WEREWOLF KING LEGACY] — RELEASED
Silence fell.
The priestess NPC standing beside Sai Ji staggered backward.
Her serene expression shattered.
"You…" she whispered, horror breaking through her scripted voice. "You are not supposed to exist."
Pain detonated through Sai Ji.
Not the pain of injury.
The pain of rewriting.
His bones twisted, stretching, reforging themselves into something monstrous. Muscles ripped apart and stitched themselves back together with brutal efficiency.
His vision exploded into color.
Sound sharpened.
Smell multiplied a thousandfold.
Dark silver fur erupted across his skin.
His jaw cracked as it elongated into a muzzle filled with dagger-long fangs. A crown of twisted iron forced its way from his skull like growing antlers.
System messages flashed violently.

Sai Ji tried to scream.
What came out instead was a roar that shook the collapsing hall.
Players froze.
Some ran.
Others simply stared in horror.
Then the Hall of Origin shattered completely.
Reality folded into darkness.
The smell of pine reached him first.
Wet earth.
Cold water.
Blood.
Sai Ji's eyes snapped open.
He lay in the middle of a forest clearing, enormous paws buried in damp soil.
Paws.
His heart slammed.
Slowly, carefully, he raised his head.
The world exploded into detail.
He could hear the distant rustle of animals miles away. He could smell the faint metallic scent of a nearby stream. Every leaf, every insect, every breath of wind existed in impossible clarity.
Something was very wrong.
He staggered forward toward a still pool of water.
The reflection staring back wasn't human.
Eight feet tall at the shoulder.
A creature carved from muscle and shadow.
Silver-black fur rippled across its body. Molten gold eyes burned beneath a crown of twisted metal fused to the skull.
A monster.
The Werewolf King.
"No way…" Sai Ji rasped.
His voice sounded like grinding stone.
A branch snapped behind him.
Two figures stepped out from the forest.
They froze.
Then both dropped to one knee.
The first was a massive man wearing armor of ironwood and scarred leather. A war hammer rested against the ground beside him.
The second was a lean woman with twin bone daggers strapped to her hips, her eyes gleaming with wild excitement.
The giant man bowed his head.
"Alpha," he said, voice deep as thunder. "You have returned."
The woman grinned, feral joy lighting her face.
"The bloodline endures."
Sai Ji blinked.
"…What?"
"I am Fen," the giant said.
"And I am Lura," the woman added, rising smoothly to her feet. "We have searched the wilds for your scent."
She looked at him like someone staring at a living legend.
"Now the hunt begins again."
Sai Ji's mind spun.
None of this made sense.
But deep inside his new body… something ancient stirred.
A cold instinct.
A command older than thought.
Alpha.
Three howls ripped through the forest.
Fen stood instantly.
"Dire Wolves," he growled.
"Feral," Lura added, already drawing her blades.
"They smell the awakening."
A system notification appeared in Sai Ji's vision.
[WOLF SENSE — ACTIVATED]
Threats Detected: 3
Enemy Type: Feral Dire Wolves — Level 22

ALPHA RESPONSE: REQUIRED
He could feel them.
Their scent.
Their movement.
Their hunger.
Without thinking, Sai Ji leapt.
The forest blurred past him.
A Dire Wolf lunged from the shadows.
His body moved on instinct.
One swipe of his claw tore through the beast like paper.
Bones shattered.
The wolf collapsed instantly.
Sai Ji landed silently, staring down at the corpse.
It had been effortless.
Behind him, Lura danced through another wolf with flashing blades. Fen crushed the last with a single hammer-like punch.
The forest went quiet again.
Steam rose from Sai Ji's bloodstained claws.
"Your first hunt," Lura said proudly.
"Flawless," Fen added.
Sai Ji stared at the carnage.
At his claws.
At the blood.
A realization crept into his mind.
He wasn't controlling the Werewolf King.
He was the Werewolf King.
A final system message appeared.
