The wailing cries spread through the night.
She crouched on the ground, burying her face in her knees, and cried louder and louder.
I stood nearby, sighing silently, feeling some pity and some helplessness; I stood for a moment before crouching down as well.
After a while, the crying gradually softened, turning into sobs.
She lifted her head, tears shimmering in her swollen red eyes, looking particularly delicate and helpless, eliciting great sympathy.
She glanced at me and mumbled, "What are you doing?"
"Accompanying you!" I replied, pulling out a handkerchief and offering it to her.
Elizabeth Rodriguez took it, wiped her tears, but could not stop sobbing, "Earlier... thanks!"
I chuckled softly and said, "But earlier, I hit your dad, you don't mind, do you?"
Elizabeth Rodriguez shook her head and muttered, "I don't mind! My dad was indeed too much!"
"That's good to hear!" I smiled.
In the next moment, the atmosphere became suffocating again.
