Veronica's POV
The car came to a halt outside the Third Funeral Home in Aurelia City. I climbed out of the backseat, straightening my sunglasses and letting my heels click sharply against the concrete. My long coat billowed in the wind as I walked toward the entrance with purposeful strides, projecting an icy confidence.
Ryan trailed behind me as we headed straight for the office to ask about cremation records from years back. The staff member we encountered wasn't exactly helpful.
"Sorry, but those records are private. You'll need to leave."
He tried steering us toward the exit. I kept quiet while Ryan smoothly reached into his jacket and flashed his work credentials.
"Look at this carefully! We're investigating a years-old homicide, and the perpetrator might be connected to this funeral home. We need those records. Refuse to cooperate, and you'll face charges for interfering with an investigation!"
"My apologies! I had no idea you were law enforcement! Right this way!"
