The elderly woman let out a heavy sigh, clearly wrestling with painful memories she'd rather keep buried. But my relentless questioning finally broke through her defenses, and she revealed the truth I'd been seeking. "Your father did have an identical twin brother, but that poor child died right after birth."
The weight of her words hit me as I realized this was probably one of the deepest wounds in Cecile's life—something she'd never shared with anyone, not even other Nelson.
"So my father really did have an identical twin?" I pressed, needing absolute confirmation.
"Yes, born shortly after your father," she confirmed quietly.
I nodded, feeling the pieces of this twisted puzzle finally clicking into place.
