Denton couldn't quite explain the feeling he got when he looked at Veronica—like he'd seen her before, though they'd only crossed paths once. Maybe some weird déjà vu thing, but she was basically a stranger to him.
He didn't stick around, moving on with his endless hunt for his missing family.
That chemical blast in his adoptive dad's lab when he was young had scrambled most of his childhood memories. All he knew for sure was his real name—Carl Abbott—and some fuzzy recollection of having family in the States. Maybe a mom and older sister.
But names? Faces? Gone.
His adoptive father knew the whole story, but the guy was dead now.
Without solid leads, how the hell was he supposed to track them down?

After I'd finished putting Kayren in her place, I softened my tone for Lachlan.
"Sorry for dragging you into this drama, Lachlan. I need to check on Dash."
I walked away without looking back.
