Chapter 7 - Survivors [2]

However, he believed he could last another two minutes before his body could no longer bear the strain and automatically deactivate the unique skill.

"It's been over ten minutes, right? You could head to a safer location to rest if you abandon them right now. Saving them all and continuing to fight like this would only strain your body further," Queen Anna said, breaking her silence a she noticed the slight contortion of pain on Elias's expression.

"You are human, yet you aren't at the same time. Do you really want to stumble to your death for these liabilities?"

Elias snorted, paying her no attention. He had his own reasons for saving them. It wasn't that he was a particularly good person; he simply wasn't heartless.

The number of survivors Elias had saved had now reached twenty-six. Anyone bitten or injured by a zombie wasn't allowed in the group.

It wasn't that he was actively saving everyone, but among the few he saved, many others joined the group, attracting more monsters toward them.

With such a large crowd, Elias couldn't protect everyone while remaining aware of every danger. As a result, one or two zombies or monsters slipped through their folds.

However, before they could get close, a few students, inspired by watching Elias strike down the zombies and monsters, did their best to fight back and defend themselves alongside the others.

"SCREECCHH!"

Elias raised his head and saw a giant black bird resembling a crow with razor-sharp teeth soaring toward them.

The group quickly noticed the bird as well and screamed in fear.

"AHH! We're doomed!"

"AAHHH! No… No! I can't die here!!"

"What kind of monster is that? How are we supposed to face that?"

The entire group descended into chaos, advancing toward Elias in an attempt to get closer, sure that only by being by his side could they be protected.

"Tsskk!! EVERYONE CALM DOWN!" Vincent shouted, sensing the disorder within the group.

Fortunately, the group quickly regained some composure upon realising that the bird hadn't yet made any attempt to attack them. However, the tension in the air continued to rise steadily.

Witnessing the scene, Vincent sighed in relief. He said nothing more. He was one of the lecturers Elias had saved earlier. Although he also wanted to move closer to Elias, he understood that doing so would likely cause the group to descend further into chaos, leading to the deaths of many, which they had to avoid at all costs.

Even if they were mostly useless in combat, the best they could do was remain calm and follow those who could fight.

Vincent looked at Elias, standing at the forefront with another lecturer and several students close by, their attention also fixed on the giant bird in the sky, and sighed in defeat.

Without hesitation, he moved through the crowd, stealthily making his way to the forefront of the group.

At that moment, the giant bird had passed over the group, sensing that they were nothing but small fries, and was now quickly advancing toward Elias, clearly recognising him as the only one with enough meat to allow it to advance to the next stage.

SWOOSSHH!!

Suddenly, the giant bird's speed increased, and it reached Elias in an instant, its wide claws stretched out to grab him.

Elias anticipated the attack and quickly dodged.

He struck one of the claws with a steel rod in his right hand, instantly breaking the bird's claw and shattering the steel rod in half.

CRACCK!! KATCHHAA!!

Elias had already lost the rod and kitchen knife he had initially carried. This was the third weapon he had picked up, and its durability was obviously insufficient to contain his strength.

"SCREESSSHH!!" the giant bird screamed in pain as it retreated to the sky. The glint in its eyes sharpened as it stared back down at Elias with a bloodthirsty look.

It was obvious that it now considered Elias a threat to its survival, increasing its desire to kill him. However, after its previous defeat, the giant bird vanished into the sky, not daring to approach Elias.

Elias watched the bird flee into the distance and sighed in relief. Although he was powerful, he couldn't contend with an opponent in the sky due to his limited capabilities.

Just as he was about to charge forward, his eyes widened in surprise as the giant bird returned, heading toward him with a huge rock clutched in its uninjured claw.

"GET BACK!" Elias barked at the students behind him, pushing Mirabel backwards.

She was the woman he had saved when he first arrived outside the dormitory and had stuck close to him like a bee to honey ever since, just like the others he had saved. She had also helped defeat some zombies and monsters with her skill and unique talent, which Elias guessed was telekinesis.

However, with her current level, she was useless against the giant bird approaching from the sky at that moment.

Sensing the danger, the lecturers and other students stayed behind to fend for themselves as Elias ran forward to meet the bird head-on.

Before the bird could get any closer, Elias switched the other steel rod to his right hand, then stretched it back, aiming it at the giant bird in the sky.

Then, he launched it forward.

SWIISHH!!

The blazing steel rod sliced through the air like a bolt of lightning, closing the gap to the giant bird and swiftly piercing the side of its stomach.

"SCCREECCH!!"

The giant bird roared in pain and fell to the ground, along with the large rock.

BANGG!!

The bird collapsed with a resounding bang, and the rock shattered upon impact.
