WRITER'S POV
The two men stared at each other with different thoughts in their minds, while one thought was filled with guilt, the other was filled with hatred. No doubt, Chris hated Leo for what he did to his best friend.
Snapping out from his daze, Chris launched at Leo, unloading punches of rage and bitterness, one after another.
"Why did you do that to her! What did she ever do to you? Selene is such a good person, how could you treat her like this? It's shameful that you're an Alpha…. A big shame!" Chris yelled.
"You're a damn bastard werewolf! I'm not scared to tell you that! She gave you her whole heart, and to even get pregnant with your pup, she went through hell… Do you have any idea?"
Leo kept mute, guilt biting every inch of him. His aura turned gloomy and his once sharp face fell into a frown of sadness.
Chris breathed raggedly as the continued lashing, "The injections Serena set her up with, an Eight-centimeter needle jabbed into her belly every two days. Even her wolf howled aloud within her in pain because of the needle. Knowing the chances were slim, she still took the pain for you."
Hearing these words, Ethan raised his head to stare at Chris, stunned, an overwhelming emotion flooded through him, and his breathing became heavy.
"What have I done? All these while I couldn't see what she did for me. I was surprised she was able to get pregnant but why… Why didn't I ask how she did it? Why"
These thoughts battled viciously in his head as Chris kept on pouring out his heart about what he had done to Selene.
"The moon goddess helped her; that baby she finally got was yours. You and Amelia brutally killed it! You killed your heir… Alpha Leo. You don't deserve Selene's love. Scum like you ought to rot in the wilderness and be cast out of the pack!"
Chris vented all his fury, fuming hard as he glared coldly at Leo . Pointing his fingers towards the exit, he said.
"That would be all I have to say, Leo . Now get the hell out of my property!" Chris thundered.
Leo, on the other hand, was deep in his thoughts, his wolf taunts and the inner voices castigating him were enough to kill him.
"I've failed," He muttered slowly under his breath as he turned to leave.
Chris yelled loudly, taunting him further. "You will never find Selene again, I'll make sure it never happens!"
Leo slumped in his car, gripping the steering wheel tight until his eyes stung.
Then suddenly, it hit him. Why Selene had changed, why the look in her eyes made his gut twist.
She knew the truth about that car accident three years ago.
She'd asked if they'd ever get divorced because she'd already made up her mind to leave.
And that baby, getting pregnant had been a fragile miracle.
Once known for his sharp, handsome features, he now looked like a beaten stray wolf. Shame gushed over him as he kept quiet, staring hollowly into space, his eyes blurred with unshed tears.
*******
Meanwhile, Selene landed at the sharp-claws pack airport, and Serena was there to pick her up.
Before her arrival, Serena had already set up a small apartment close to the pack clinic where Selene would get her corneal transplant and follow-up checkups.
No time wasted; right after they landed, Serena took her for pre-op tests and a full-body test.
Thankfully, her body was mostly fine.
But the emotional scars? Those were out of Serena's hands.
Usually chatty, Serena was strangely quiet, which Selene found odd.
"What's up? Not saying much, don't tell me you're mad I'm here?"
Serena blinked, feeling caught. "No way, I'm happy. But whenever I try to talk, it just hurts so much I want to cry."
And sure enough, tears welled up.
Reaching out to grab Serena's hand, Selene flashed a soft smile before giving her a gentle squeeze. "Please don't cry, I'm done with a miserable marriage, this is a fresh start. You should be happy for me. Come on, smile… You look way better when you smile."
Those words only made Serena sob harder, cursing Leo and Amelia like crazy.
"I hate him so much, He did this to you because of that… that bitch!" Serena muttered amidst sobs and Selene sighed, exhausted with options to calm Serena.
She decided to let her vent and after she'd vented, Serena's mood finally lifted.
That night, they stayed up talking about childhood memories, their coming-of-age ceremony, carefree and lighthearted.
For a moment, Selene seemed to forget all her pain, drifting back to simpler times and with the kind of peace she felt, she soon fell asleep mid-chat.
Worried she'd be lonely, Serena got her a guide dog, not just to help navigate before surgery, but as company. Although she knew Nina was a good guard-wolf to Selene, she wanted her to have a physical companion.
Finally, the surgery day arrived.
Serena sat beside Selene's bed in the pack clinic as she tried to assure her that things would be fine.
"Your donor," Serena started as she slowly brushed Selene's hair. "She was a 16-year-old girl who passed from congenital hypothyroidism. A heart disease that had no cure not even the witches could cure it."
Selene turned her face to Serena as if trying to study her expression even though she was blind.
"That's too awful, such sickness in a teenager," Selene muttered sadly as she frowned. She felt the weight of fate's cruelty and couldn't help but feel emotional.
"I hope she's with the moon Goddess, I pray for her soul," Selene continued as tears dropped from her eyes for the dead donor.
Truly, only life and death really matter and she couldn't help but resolve to live… at least for the little girl's eyes that were about to be given to her.
A pack nurse walked into the room, interrupting the emotional moment they had to announce her reality.
"It's time ma'am," She mumbled and Serena gave Selene a strong squeeze before planting a kiss on her forehead.
"I'll be here when you're out," Serena whispered as they rolled Selene to the operating room.
After hours waiting in the emergency room, the surgeon came out with the news. "It went perfectly."
"Thank the moon goddess!" Serena burst into tears as she fell to the floor.
"She will be wheeled into a private room soon, and then you can see her," The surgeon continued and Serena nodded, still crying.
In less than an hour, Serena clutched Selene like she'd never let her go as she continued shedding tears.
At this point, you could say Serena was a crybaby.
Selene lay on the bed with bandaged eyes, her face pale but filled with unmistakable happiness. Once the bandages were removed, it would be official; she could see again!
"Oh, Selene," Serena whispered as her phone began to ring.
It was Chris, he wanted to do a video call.
"Why are you crying… did everything go well? Talk to me, damn it!" Chris said, feeling agitated about her tears.
Wiping her tears, Serena replied softly, "Selene can see, Chris… I'm just too damn happy to stop crying!" she announced and Selene shook her head, amused by Serena's drama.
There was a slight pause over the phone as Chris sniffed. "Pass the phone to Selene , I want to see for myself."
Still woozy from the anaesthesia, Selene flashed a faint smile at the phone before muttering. " I'm okay, Chris."
Hearing her voice, Chris's mood lightened as he began rejoicing.
"After the bandage is removed, you can really see?" He repeated for the umpteenth time and Selene was patient in answering him.
"Yes, Chris. That's what the surgeon says and I can also feel the intensity of light around me. Though faintly, yes, I believe I can see."
Selene's smile was genuine, pure happiness shining through.
"Well, I can't wait for you to see how handsome I have become and how beautiful you've grown," Chris beamed and the girls chuckled.
After the laughter had died down, Chris cleared his throat as he began filling them in on Crimson's pack.
"I leaked all Amelia's taunting voice messages and those sketchy videos from The caspers' Villa online. As per your orders." Chris started, and Selene couldn't stop smiling; her plans were hatched fine.
Everything was going in her favor. What else could she ask from the moon goddess?
"Also, your ex-husband and ex-mate has gone mad trying to find you," Chris burst out in mockery, and Selene held the sheets tightly in her palm.
She had almost forgotten about that piece of shit.
"I secretly sent out information to the media about Amelia and Leo… the Title was the pack's worst homewreckers. In less than a few seconds, they became public pariahs."
"That's so thoughtful of you, Chris," Serena said, commending Chris for his actions.
Feeling a sense of justice, he continued, "I heard Lucas found out about Amelia and Leo affair, has rejected her and is now filing for a divorce. Karma's a bitch, huh?"
Leaving Crimson's pack meant cutting ties with the past. Now selene was ready to start afresh with only herself to think of.
"Everyone pays for their mistakes eventually," She mumbled under her breath.
"Once my private investigator digs up more dirt, I'd make sure they get what they deserve," She continued, her voice growing cold and filled with determination.
Chris and Serena exchanged looks on screen, obviously shocked at her recent behavior.
After a while of talking, Serena said, "Alright, Selene needs rest. We'll catch up later."
"Sure, please take good care of her," Chris replied before ending the call.
After the call, Serena leaned in, worried, "Selene, are you really done with all that?"
Giving a reassuring smile, Selene nodded, "He's just an ex. That chapter's closed. What's there to hold on to?"
Hearing that, Serena finally relaxed.
The surgery was a total success.
The doctor said she'd get the bandages off soon, the best news she'd had in ages.
While these were going on, an entirely different story was unfolding in Crimson's pack.
