Arriving at the office, Sun Zhewen sneakily slipped into the chairman's office. As soon as he entered, he unceremoniously devoured all the breakfast Liu Ruyue had brought. Liu Ruyue stood to the side, watching him wolf down the food with a smile. When he finished, she reached out and gently patted his belly, teasing, "Hmm, three months along, haha." Then, she looked up at Sun Zhewen, her eyes full of anticipation, and asked, "Are you free tonight?"
Sun Zhewen swallowed the last bite of food and said with some helplessness, "I have something on tonight. I need to take Li Zhiyan to Haicheng."
Upon hearing this, Liu Ruyue immediately pouted, looking displeased. "I wanted you to keep me company," she said, looking like a little girl who couldn't get her candy.
"Let's see. If I get back early tonight, I'll come find you, okay?" Sun Zhewen tried to soothe her emotions.
"Really? Don't lie to me. You ran off last night," Liu Ruyue stared at him, a hint of suspicion in her eyes.
"Didn't you tell me to leave?" Sun Zhewen said with an innocent expression.
"I told you to leave, and you left? Humph, you scumbag," Liu Ruyue playfully rolled her eyes at him, pretending to be angry and turning her head away.
Sun Zhewen turned her around, kissed her on the mouth, and said, "I'm going to work."
Back in the office, I'd barely sat down and hadn't even had a chance to collect my thoughts when Chen Qingyan called.
"Zhewen, your transfer orders are about to come through. Let's go to your rental tonight after work," Chen Qingyan said, a hint of anticipation in her voice.
"Qingyan, I can't tonight. I need to see Li Zhiyan off to Haicheng," Sun Zhewen said helplessly, his brow furrowing slightly.
"Ugh, fine, fine. I was hoping you'd see my new lingerie," Chen Qingyan's tone was clearly flirtatious.
"Ah, Qingyan, you're getting bolder," Sun Zhewen said, a little surprised.
"Hmph, it's because you're flirting with everyone. I really don't trust you," Chen Qingyan's voice rose a little, laced with a bit of resentment.
"I'm not!" Sun Zhewen quickly retorted.
"Really? Hmph, if I find out you've done me wrong, I'll send you to Thailand," Chen Qingyan threatened.
"Are we going on a trip?" Sun Zhewen tried to ease the atmosphere.
"Heh, a trip? You wish. I'm sending you there to perform and make money for me." Chen Qingyan said without a shred of mercy.
Sun Zhewen squeezed his legs, feeling a chill, and hurriedly said, "Qingyan, you can bear to do this."
"What's there to bear? Since it's not mine, I'll make it disappear." Chen Qingyan's tone carried a hint of determination.
Sun Zhewen's heart clenched, and he quickly said, "Qingyan, I have a lot of things to do today, I'll go and get busy."
"Hey, don't rush, I have something to tell you." Chen Qingyan said urgently.
"What is it?" Sun Zhewen asked.
"The holdout's body was found, and the police station has handed it over to the criminal investigation team. It's been confirmed that it wasn't a traffic accident." Chen Qingyan's voice became serious.
"So fast," Sun Zhewen said in surprise.
"Yeah, so you'll have a long and tough road ahead of you once you get here. They're too arrogant," Chen Qingyan said, her voice filled with anger.
"But even if I come, I'll just be a deputy director. I don't even know what I'll be doing," Sun Zhewen said, a little helplessly.
"You idiot, I've already promised the director to let him not interfere with what you do. I'll figure out a way to get him transferred to the county bureau later," Chen Qingyan's voice revealed a hint of smugness.
"Qingyan, you guys really used power and money to the extreme this time," Sun Zhewen couldn't help but say.
"Hmph, it's all for you, for us. If I can't break free from this fate, what's the use of this power?" Chen Qingyan's voice carried a hint of grievance.
"Well, okay, I'll see what happens when I get there. It's a bit of a pity. This matter is basically going to be dropped," Sun Zhewen sighed.
"Yeah, you have to be careful in the future. This group is ruthless and vicious, too vicious," Chen Qingyan cautioned.
"Understood." Sun Zhewen replied, and after hanging up the phone, he leaned back in his chair, closed his eyes, and let out a deep sigh.
In the afternoon, Sun Zhewen left work early. He rushed home to pick up Li Zhiyan, then drove towards Haicheng. The car was filled with a stifling silence, and the atmosphere was unusually oppressive.
As they were nearing Haicheng, Li Zhiyan whispered, "Take me to Xiangfu Street." Her voice was barely audible. Today, she was again dressed in extremely revealing attire, the tight clothing perfectly outlining her curves, making anyone who looked at her feel parched.
Sun Zhewen sighed softly, his eyebrows furrowed, his eyes filled with helplessness. He said, "Can we not go?" His voice carried a hint of pleading, attempting a final effort.
Li Zhiyan suddenly said, "Pull over to the side of the road." Her tone was firm, brooking no argument.
Sun Zhewen reluctantly parked the car. Before he could react, Li Zhiyan had already quickly undone her seatbelt and climbed over. She fiercely kissed Sun Zhewen, the passionate kiss filled with intense desire and impulse. After a while, Li Zhiyan climbed into the back seat, adjusting her somewhat disheveled clothes and reapplying her makeup. Her movements were skillful and swift, and she said, "This is just the interest, hmm."
Sun Zhewen wiped his lips with a tissue, his expression complex and conflicted. He waited for her quietly, his heart filled with mixed feelings.
She came down from the back, got back in the passenger seat, and said, "Let's go." Her voice had returned to its calm state, as if nothing had happened just now.
She touched Sun Zhewen's hand, a hint of inquiry in her eyes. "Do you mind?"
Sun Zhewen was silent for a moment, then spoke slowly, "It's a lie to say I don't." His voice was low and heavy.
"Then hurry up and grow," Li Zhiyan said, her gaze filled with both anticipation and helplessness.
The car started again, continuing towards Haicheng. The scenery outside the window constantly receded, while Sun Zhewen and Li Zhiyan's hearts, like the road ahead, were filled with the unknown and confusion.
Li Zhiyan broke the silence, "You should go back later. I should be back the day after tomorrow. I want to get a life-saving talisman from him." Her tone was firm, yet tinged with a hint of helplessness.
"How do you get it?" Sun Zhewen asked instinctively, regretting it the moment the words left his mouth.
"Hmph, what do you think?" Li Zhiyan glared at him, her eyes conveying both annoyance and unspeakable bitterness.
"I'm sorry, I shouldn't have said that," Sun Zhewen apologized quickly, his face full of remorse.
"I must make sure the Liu Brothers can't touch me, at least not openly. Otherwise, I'm just meat on their chopping board, and I could be gone at any moment." Li Zhiyan's voice trembled slightly, revealing deep fear and unease.
Sun Zhewen once again felt his own insignificance and helplessness. He gripped the steering wheel tightly, his knuckles turning white from the force. After arriving at the destination, Li Zhiyan grabbed his hand, her eyes filled with complex emotions. She looked at him and said, "Don't take it to heart, okay? Just pretend I'm... a woman you casually meet."
Sun Zhewen shook his head forcefully, his voice low and firm: "I can't."
"Then what can you do now? Let's just endure, okay?" Li Zhiyan got out of the car, took her luggage, and leaned down to look at Sun Zhewen. Her voice was pleading, and her eyes were slightly red.
Sun Zhewen nodded, his throat seeming to be blocked by something, unable to speak. Li Zhiyan said again, "You go back."
Sun Zhewen watched her leave, dragging her suitcase. He didn't move for a long time. He didn't know if it was pity for Li Zhiyan, or gratitude, or if the feelings had developed from sleeping in the same bed every day. He wasn't sure. Finally, he slowly started the car and drove away.
