Chapter 49 - Will You Remember Me?

Chen Qingyan frowned, looking a little displeased. "Go on, then. She won't listen to me anyway."

Sun Zhewen walked to the stairwell, thinking about how to make Li Zhiyan feel better. When he reached Li Zhiyan's door, he found it was locked from the inside. This surprised him; Li Zhiyan usually didn't lock her door.

"Zhiyan, come and eat," Sun Zhewen knocked on the door, his tone as gentle as possible.

Li Zhiyan's voice came from inside, tinged with a hint of defiance, "I'm not eating. I'm full of anger from you all."

Sun Zhewen sighed helplessly and continued to persuade her, "You'll be hungry later. Besides, the food will be cold and won't taste good."

The voice from within sounded a bit weary, "I'm going to sleep. I don't want to eat."

Sun Zhewen knew it was useless to persuade her further, so he had to turn and go downstairs. After they finished eating, Sun Zhewen and Chen Qingyan cleared the table together, thinking about Zhiyan's stubbornness, and he felt a headache coming on.

After they finished tidying up, Sun Zhewen prepared to take Chen Qingyan home. Chen Qingyan suddenly said, "Go that way."

Sun Zhewen understood, and the two walked towards the garage in tacit agreement. After the car started, their conversation seemed particularly relaxed in the night.

After an unknown amount of time, Chen Qingyan chuckled slyly, "Honey, I've wrung you dry. That vixen won't be able to do anything, right? Hehe."

\n\n

Sun Zhewen smiled helplessly and put his arm around Chen Qingyan. "Did you say hello to Liu Ruyue today?"

\n\n

"Yeah, the Public Security Bureau applied to transfer you over there," Chen Qingyan said proudly.

\n\n

"The Public Security Bureau?" Sun Zhewen was somewhat surprised.

\n\n

"Yes, to transfer you to my place as Deputy Director," Chen Qingyan's smile became even brighter.

\n\n

Sun Zhewen shook his head and sighed, "This works too? How did you guys pull this off so quickly?"

\n\n

Chen Qingyan smiled mysteriously, "I said hello to him, and Zhiyan went to see Director Wang. I don't know how she managed to get it done with Director Wang; it was probably money."

Sun Zhewen frowned, a little worried. "Aren't we essentially buying an official position?"

Chen Qingyan gently patted Sun Zhewen's shoulder, comforting him. "Honey, isn't this the only way? Come on, get up, take me home. You can ask Zhiyan for the details."

The car drove through the night, and Sun Zhewen's mood was complex. He recalled everything that had just happened, feeling somewhat helpless, but also believing that this was perhaps the best solution for now.

It was almost 11 PM when they got home, and Sun Zhewen pushed open the door, his body exhausted. The living room lights were still on, and the dinner he had left for Li Zhiyan was untouched on the table. Sun Zhewen frowned, a touch of worry creeping into his heart. He knew Li Zhiyan was in a bad mood, and he figured she was probably sulking in her room again.

He quietly went upstairs and walked to Li Zhiyan's door, habitually pushing it open gently. The room was dim, with only the moonlight from outside the window slanting in, outlining Li Zhiyan's figure with her back to him. She seemed to have fallen asleep already, the covers pulled up to her chin, her breathing even.

Sun Zhewen walked over quietly and asked in a low voice, "Asleep?"

No response.

He murmured to himself, "Looks like she's asleep."

Suddenly, Li Zhiyan sat bolt upright, her eyes blazing with anger. "Are you done? Look at the time you got back!"

Sun Zhewen was startled by her sudden movement, but quickly regained his composure. He smiled and said, "Zhiyan, are you hungry? I'll heat up the food."

"I don't want any," Li Zhiyan said stubbornly, but at that moment, her stomach betrayed her with a loud growl.

Sun Zhewen couldn't help but laugh, reaching out to rub her belly. He teased, "You say you're not hungry? Come on, get up. I'll heat up the food for you."

Li Zhiyan pouted, reluctantly saying, "Just get me a piece of bread."

Sun Zhewen shook his head helplessly. He went downstairs and got two pieces of bread, and also heated up a cup of milk. He carried the items upstairs, walked into Li Zhiyan's room, and placed the bread and milk on her bedside table, smiling. "You two sisters are still sulking, huh?"

Li Zhiyan mumbled as she ate the bread, "Zhewen, I hate her."

Sun Zhewen sighed, sitting on the edge of the bed and said softly, "Hey, you two sisters, don't say things like that."

Li Zhiyan took a bite of bread, then said resentfully, "Seriously, if it weren't for you, I wouldn't want to see her at all. She always has that stern face, as if everything I do is some kind of evil."

Sun Zhewen chuckled, reaching out to ruffle her hair. "Alright, eat slowly. Are you full?"

Li Zhiyan glared at him, but her eyes held a hint of coquettishness. "Get me another piece of bread."

Sun Zhewen smiled and stood up, preparing to get another piece of bread. Just then, Li Zhiyan suddenly grabbed his hand and said in a low voice, "Never mind, I don't want it."

Sun Zhewen turned to look at her, slightly frowning. "What's wrong? Weren't you just saying you were hungry?"

Li Zhiyan shook her head, a complex emotion in her eyes. "I suddenly don't want to eat anymore."

Seeing her like this, Sun Zhewen could only shrug helplessly. "Then I'll go to sleep."

Li Zhiyan glared at him, the corners of her mouth slightly lifting. "You dare! I bought you to sleep with me."

Sun Zhewen was taken aback for a moment, then a mischievous grin spread across his face. "I didn't ask for your money, you know."

"Hmph," Li Zhiyan snorted, pointing towards the bathroom. "Hurry up and take a shower. You smell like her."

Upon hearing this, Sun Zhewen's expression flickered, but he quickly regained his composure and nodded. "Alright, I'll go shower."

He entered the bathroom, and the water gushed, as if trying to wash away all his troubles. Li Zhiyan sat on the edge of the bed, her gaze unfocused. Her mood was like the night sky, overcast with clouds.

After his shower, Sun Zhewen returned to the bed, and Li Zhiyan immediately embraced him. Her embrace was warm and tense, as if she were grasping at the last straw.

"Your matter should be resolved soon," she said softly, a barely perceptible tremor in her voice.

"Yeah," Sun Zhewen nodded, gently patting her back, attempting to soothe her emotions.

Li Zhiyan was silent for a moment, then suddenly looked up, directly into his eyes. "Zhewen, if I die one day, will you remember me?"

Sun Zhewen was stunned. He had never seen her look so serious and sorrowful. "Why are you saying this? We'll be fine."

Her gaze became even more resolute. "I'm serious. If one day I die, will you remember me?"

Sun Zhewen's heart clenched. He held her hand and said solemnly, "I will. I'll remember you for the rest of my life."

Li Zhiyan heard this and tears instantly welled up in her eyes. She sobbed softly in his arms. "Zhewen, with those words, even if I die, it will be worth it."
