Chapter 32 - Love Can Fix The Wicked

Kuro sat in his room with a dejected expression, his thoughts wandering to his black haired classmate.

A subtle sigh escaped his lips.

"That's a first."

Kuro uttered to himself aloud, standing up from his bed and walking to his window, sliding it open and leaping out without a second thought.

Fortunately, the window wasn't that high-up which allowed him to land without complications. That's when he felt the constant vibration of his phone within his pocket.

After taking it out of his pocket, he glanced at the contact name that was calling him. Then with a tap, he put the phone up to his ear.

"Kuro, that girl is extremely dangerous. I highly advise trying to...get with her. Apparently she's the vessel for death itself"

Kuriko explained on the other line, his voice a mix of worry and subtle amusement.

"I see..."

Kuro uttered with those two words, hanging up the phone call and sliding his phone back into his pocket.

Suddenly, Kuro head snapped to the side with furrowed eyebrows, his ears picking up a subtle audible high pitched scream coming from quite a distance away.

"Damn. I better go handle that real quick"

Kuro muttered under his breath, cursing his ovely heightened sense of hearing. Then he dashed forward at break neck speed, moving at a blurring pace that not even the naked eye could track.

'I believe it's somewhere around here'

Kuro stated within his mind as he skidded to a stop in front of an entrance to an alleyway, earning a scoff at the typical scenery meant for muggers and murder.

Kuro had then began walking into alleyway, darkened by the shadows which were casted by the two complex apartment buildings.

Finally he had came across a scene he was all to familiar with in video games or movies. A blonde haired women was being helplessly tossed around, clutching her bag in despair which the muggers tried to take forcefully.

"And I thought trash couldn't be any lower, but I guess I was wrong. Y'all set the standards straight to hell."

Kuro exclaimed aloud with an exasperated yawn, his gloved hands slipping into his pocket and a look of boredom plastered over his face.

"Oh look, a kid playing captain save a ho"

The first mugger proclaimed, dismissing Kuro earlier statement about them being trash.

Then the second mugger revealed a metallic object, raising it up and pointing it towards Kuro with an arrogant grin.

"how about I send you there-"

The second mugger was nearly finished declaring the death sentence until he could no longer talk.

His head no longer was on his body, instead it fell to the ground with a thud, rolling a bit and stopping short from Kuro.

Despite the sudden death, Kuro remained impassive and his golden eyes flickered from side to side for a bit, as if he was tracking the movements of something.

The first mugger looked on in a horrified realization but inevitably met the same fate as the second mugger.

"Impressive, thought the lack of-"

Kuro began to praise the work done by this 'something' but before he could utter another word, he was forced to tilt his head and lean his body forward a bit to the side to slip a jab from a sharp metallic object.

'Does she like stabbing people?'

Kuro asked within his mind as he continued his momentum, rolling forward and away from the individual that attempted to end him the same way as the muggers.

Upon standing up, he finally took his right arm out his pocket and rubbed the back of his neck, a subtly strained expression on his face.

"Listen, I was about to deal with them. I wasn't apart of that ordeal"

When those words left Kuro mouth, a sword stopped mere inches away from his throat, yet Kuro gazed down at the wielder unfazed by the closeness of the blade to his neck.

"I see...my apologies"

Ayami stated with a monotone voice, lowering the blade and sheathing it with an audible click.

"Nah you good. I have a question though, rumors has it that you're death incarnate?"

Kuro asked with a slight tilt of his head, which Ayami nodded in confirmation.

"How about a challenge. If I can break that sword of yours before you get a clean slice on me, you owe me one favor?"

Kuro asked in with a subtle mischievous grin, his calculating golden eyes gazing into Ayami's dead cold black eyes.

"Okay. If I get a clean slice, you will become a servant of death. A reaper of sorts."

Ayami proclaimed which Kuro nodded to the condition, then immediately Kuro had slid into a battle stance.

"I'll go first"

Kuro stated with a grin and after those words were declared, the beginning of the match initiated.

Kuro came in with a blitzing drop kick which Ayami blocked with ease, though before she could retort or even counterattack, she was launched out the alley with a staggering force.

'Just how strong is this guy?!'

Ayami exclaimed in her mind in shock, pondering if Kuro was holding back during their mock battle at the academy.

Upon landing on the asphalt ground with her feet planting down and halting her movement, Ayami flipped her sword in a reverse grip and positioned it a little higher towards her face.

On the other hand, Kuro was seen stepping out of the shadows that consumed the alleyway entrance, both hands in his pockets once again with a stride of confidence.

Flashback...

"So what do you think of Kuro?"

A young girl asked Ayami with a tilt of her head.

"Someone like me doesn't deserve love. Not only will I outlive him, they always find someone better."

Ayami replied with an impassive expression though her tone betrayed her emotion, one filled with a longing sadness.

Flashback over...

"Sorry if I took over what you had going on, I'll get out of your way"

Kuro proclaimed with a subtle hint of sadness which did not go unnoticed by Ayami. Though she remained on guard, until observing Kuro begin walking away without uttering another word.

"...."

Ayami stood in silence and disbelief, a foreign pain in her heart surfacing as she watched Kuro leave.

This was the first time she had ever felt something for someone. Her eyebrows furrowed in confusion, her body felt like it was on fire yet she could only watch as Kuro finally left from her sight.

"I mean just wow. I guess a girls heart is complicated after all"

Kuriko suddenly exclaimed from a bench beside her, a newspapers covering his entire face as to avoid being recognized, until he closed it and tossed it to the side.

"W-what are you doing here?"

Ayami stammered out as she swiftly turned to face Kuriko, her impassive expression finally twisting into one of confusion.

"Oh yeah, I have this ability that allows me to hide my presence within space itself. I guess not even death could find me~, anyway just give him a chance. It might be worthwhile"

Kuriko stated in a small rant, his leg halfway crossed over the other as if he was all too relaxed.

"I-i don't know if I can. This cursed power...he won't be able to-"

Ayami was beginning her tragic backstory but was interrupted by Kuriko who stood up suddenly without any prior warning.

"Enough of that. I've known that guy for quite some time, and this is the first time he's interested in something other than science. He'll be fine"

Kuriko explained and with a wave of his hand, he was gone in the blink of an eye, leaving Ayami to stand there in befuddled silence.

.

'I'll see for myself how strong he truly is...'

Ayami declared within her mind, observing Kuro walk the streets from a rooftop. She noted how he visited various coffee shops, sat there for 20 minutes then left.

He seemed like nothing special.

Original Soul Art #23: Rapid Decay

Kuro eyes narrowed as he felt a strange sensation within space itself, as if the very molecules around him were reaching the end of their existence.

Quanti-Soul Art #12: Molecular Reconstruction

Everything within the immediate area began crumbling away and fading into nothingness, except for Kuro.

As this rapid decaying force reached him, his technique flared to life and a burst of golden electricity exuded from his very body.

He felt the force rapidly erase his molecular structure but due to his technique being activated before the decaying force reached him, the technique strengthened the existing forces acting on his molecular structure which prevented the effect of the decay.

The sheer potency of these two clashing forces resulted in a visible quantum-magic conversion within the electromagnetic radiation spectrum and Kuro's soul structure.

Flaming Sword Art #8: Solar Ray

Kuro head immediately snapped towards the source that attempted to murder him. His eyes narrowed at the hooded figure standing on the edge of a rooftop.

The molecules around his hand began to rapidly oscillating, generating heat within the space around him. Then a burst of flames roared to life, taking shape and stretching into an in tangle sword of flames.

With a steady stance, Kuro cocked his arm back with the flaming sword in hand, slinging his arm forward and launching the flaming sword into the air.

On the other hand, the cloaked Ayami stared at the flaming sword impassively as it breached the very skies, shooting past even the clouds and higher into the atmosphere.

Though before she could even blink, a heating sensation flashed across her body, setting the cloak ablaze.

Then it struck.

A flaming pillar tore through the clouds like an explosion from the very sun itself, slamming into the building and releasing a fierce fiery explosion that washed over the streets.
