Chapter 10 - Notes Between Chapters 1

Hello there — I am Professor Hayes, a character you will meet much later, and from now on I will be presenting the interlude notes between chapters.

Today's interlude topic is: types of magic.

It is currently accepted that there are three kinds of magic that humans are able to use.Starting with Chapter 9, we have now seen all three.Let's explain them one by one.

1. Elemental Magic

Most humans receive a certain kind of magic while still in their mother's womb. For example: fire, water, wind, earth, stone, lightning, poison and many more.

There are also unusual element types……but that will be the topic of another interlude note.

Anyway, as long as their physical body and mana capacity allow it, people can use their elemental magic freely.

As examples, we can mention:

Mumba's Stone Axe

Zes's Fire magic

Although most people possess elemental magic, there are exceptions, and some are unable to awaken it.

Elemental magic also has its own internal classifications, which we will discuss in later notes.

2. Enhancement Magic

This magic type strengthens and accelerates the user by coating their weapon or body with their own element.Because of this, some professors argue that Enhancement Magic should be considered the same as Elemental Magic.

However, it differs in this way:

in Elemental Magic, mana is used to release elemental power outward

in Enhancement Magic, mana is used to compress elemental power and strengthen it

As an example, we can mention Raman covering his weapon (Chapter 2).

In my opinion, Enhancement Magic is a completely separate form of magic. That is why I believe it should be classified independently, and one day I will prove it.

More powerful forms of Enhancement Magic exist —only a handful of people can use them, and we will see them later in the story.

3. Mana Arts

Without exception, every living being has mana within them.

Mana Arts do not require any element —although they can be combined with elemental magic.

Despite not needing an element, Mana Arts are the most difficult kind of magic to learn.Let me explain why.

There are 50 Mana Syllables:

20 Opening

20 Development

10 Ending

One syllable from each category is chosen to form a complete spell phrase.

Of course, these syllables are not chosen randomly. Each one has meaning.Syllables that do not complement one another will fail, and no spell is produced.

However, what truly makes Mana Arts difficult is not memorizing the 50 syllables…

Each syllable requires a very specific internal mana movement while being spoken.

If done incorrectly, the body can be harmed. Therefore, it should normally be learned in academies under experts — like myself, of course.

We saw this magic in the previous chapter, Chapter 9:Lord Berin, and afterwards Zes, used [As.te.ra].Let us examine it.

The Astera spell

The syllables are:

As (Opening)

Te (Development)

Ra (Ending)

Their meanings:

As: speed

Te: acceleration

Ra: becoming fast

When the three are combined, and the internal mana movements are performed correctly, the user gains tremendous speed.

Let's look at one more example:The spell Zes used to kill Kartz on the rooftop — Ar-Te-Sa.

Ar: I, or the part of my body I am focusing on to attack

Te: acceleration

Sa: launch / throw

Normally this spell doesn't do much, because even if the syllables fit together, there is nothing to "launch."In the terminology of Mana Arts, there is nothing that justifies Sa.

In other words, using Artesa alone is like trying to fire a bow without an arrow.

However, Zes combined this spell with his elemental magic. He used a fireball as the "arrow."

Thus, the fireball traveled at terrifying speed and became much more destructive.

And that concludes all currently known magic used by humans.Notice I said known.

There are also forms of demonic magic which humans cannot use —but we still do not have enough information about them… perhaps in the future.

And what about the power called "Do" described by White Flame?Who knows?

For now, that is all.

These were today's interlude notes.See you again in the next one.
