The clatter of Robert's phone hitting the stage felt like a gunshot in the silent hall. Levis's eyes filled with instant, primal dread. He lunged forward, grabbing Robert's collar, his knuckles white against the expensive fabric.
"Who was that call from? Robert! What happened? Is it my mother?!"
Robert couldn't speak. His breath hitched, his eyes staring at nothing.
"Levis! Stop, don't panic yet. We're going there right now!" Bright shouted, stepping in. He grabbed Levis's hand and practically dragged him toward the exit. Nora and Stofia followed, their faces masks of terror.
"Robert! What is this? Why did you let them leave?" King Stuar roared, his voice echoing off the vaulted ceilings.
Nova rushed to her son's side, clutching his shoulder. "Robert, tell me. What was Steven said?"
"Mom..." Robert's voice broke. He collapsed into her arms, sobbing like a child.
