Chapter 25 - Hot Deal

Alright, I know your head's probably spinning. Why did you just listen to such a long life story? What was all that about? What kind of headspace am I even in? I want to answer each of your questions one by one.

First, let's start from the moment Doctor Lara knocked me out. When I opened my eyes, I was sitting in a chair inside a metal capsule, with a metal cap clamped onto my head. When Lara told me my brain was being scanned, that a copy was being created, I didn't understand at first. Then Doctor Lara explained the procedure at length, scientifically.

"I want to scan your brain and, with some mutations, place it into a Dermovox body."

"What?"

"You heard me…"

"Don't be ridiculous… Did you really knock me out just to ask me this? You could have just asked without knocking me out. I've been knocked out too many times lately, and it's not pleasant."

"If I had knocked you out after we made this agreement; if the Dermovox's brain had that memory, how do you think it would be? A Mehmet squirming in pain below, knowing another version of himself is living it up above. What kind of psychological state do you think that Mehmet would be in?"

"I'd probably try to shoot my copy living it up above…"

"Exactly… That's why…" She gestured to herself with her hand and said: "…he'll think I knocked him out and forcibly threw him among the Dermovoxes."

"Won't he hate you too?"

"Don't worry about me… He fears me as much as he hates me."

"How do you know that?"

She just looked at me and smiled.

"I don't accept," I said after that strange smile.

"Just listen…"

"I said I don't accept the agreement. It's ridiculous… A very ridiculous agreement… I won't allow such a thing to be done to myself."

"But that won't be you, will it?"

"Isn't that incredibly cruel? We're leaving him to die, after all…"

"I'll watch over him from above and ensure everything is under control."

"Oh really?"

"Absolutely… I swear he'll live a happier life than even you."

"A promise?"

"A promise…"

Following this conversation, Lara begged me to approve the use of my brain for the experiment. She fell to her knees. You'd be surprised if you knew how she begged. Okay, I know that's not convincing. You know she didn't beg. Well, what was I saying? Yes, Lara wanted to use my brain as a test subject. And I set two conditions in return for my brain… First, our Jose wouldn't just be repaired, he'd also get some nice upgrades. With all the robots they had, they could do wonders for Jose's software and hardware.

"And second…" I was just about to begin, when Lara cut me off. She squeezed my cheeks from both sides as I sat in the chair and planted a huge kiss on my lips.

"I know what you want, and I accept."

Actually, that's definitely not what I was going to ask for, but there was no need to object. Normally, I'd have asked them to share a large portion of their disinfectant reserves for Hulk, but after Lara pounced on me like that, I wasn't really concerned about Hulk anymore. Lara and I had a very passionate night, and… And I guess Lara enjoyed it quite a bit too. I even got her phone number. That's how I gained my first non-robot friend in the universe.
