Chapter 7 - Chapter 6: Predicted Disaster

The trip back to the emergency rooms was a lot shorter the second time. It just showed how turned around I had gotten. I sigh and adjust my hat. I knew deep down that it probably wouldn't matter. They came after me, they knew my name, something that scared me more than most things. If people knew who I am, even though I have never met them before, then there might be other things that they could know about me. The fact that I am still alive, means they didn't know I am abnormal. That, and what the kid said. 'Can't we just turn her and be over with it?' If my research, as limited as it is, is correct, you can't be turned into a creature if they are already a creature. Then again, that info is coming from science fiction books I read, so I doubt it's accuracy.

"Whatcha thinking about?" Mir asks me.

I shake my head, "How did the idiot get shot? There was no gun? Even if the girl used a gun in self defense, it wouldn't explain why the blood in the bullets was dried." I thought out loud. It is something I couldn't explain myself. My blood reopened wounds to allow the thing stopping the wound from completely healing out of the wound. If it is too dangerous to be removed, the body would adjust to make the thing part of the body. When the item is removed, old dried blood would always be left. That is, if they weren't me. My wounds won't heal if something is still in the wound. Plant based pain medicine will not work on me, but the wound will still heal. Pain meds could keep my wounds open until it was out of my system. It is the second most painful part of my power.

"Lily...LILY!" Mir shakes me out of my thoughts. "What's with you? You seem to be more out of it lately."

I sigh heavily. "I have been slightly worried. All of this is hitting really close to home. The last time I stayed around after something like this happened, I was almost murdered three times. I don't want to go through that again." I frown as I remember the pain. I would have died if I wasn't me.

"That was almost ten years ago, you were only 15. The crime rate has gone down significantly since then."

"Six years ago, the crime rate was at an all time high. If it wasn't for the Rising Sun Project, It would still be heightened." I inform her. She gives me a lopsided smile. "I will try to pay more attention, but know that when something happens, I will have no problem saying I-told-you-so."

"Fine, let's get this over with. I still have work to do to make up for the week I was gone. Carl has been on my back on this even if he was the one who sent me on the trip in the first place." She sounds exasperated as we walk into a medical room. I turn to see the patient, and only dodge in time so as not to be hit by a pillow. The guy who threw it was about 40 something and he looked incredibly irritated, and uncomfortable.

"Well he isn't who we are looking for. The person who saw what happened said that the guy was really young. Like just out of high school young." I say as we walk out of the room thirty minutes later. "Though I can't say that he isn't guilty of something. I will ask the others if they're looking for a suspect that has been shot recently."

The next guy we interviewed was no help. He had accidentally shot himself in the leg trying to get the gun away from a small kid. He matched the age of the person we are looking for, but that's about it. I was getting slightly hopeful, then a feeling of warning hit me and I had to remind myself to breathe. Mir noticed something is up, and turned to me.

"If you're not feeling well, I could take this one." She asked me. I give her a small smile and nod. I sat down until the world stopped spinning around me. I get up shortly after and head into the room Mir had entered. She looks like she is about to explode, she would have been red if her skin was any lighter. "Don't you ever call me a witch, you blood sucker!" She grows. Wait, does that mean witches exist too? I decided the best thing to do right now is to worry about Mir.

"Mir, are you ok?" I ask and they both turn to me in surprise. I ignore the boy in the bed and focus on Mir. "Good, you're calming down. What got you all upset, all the sudden?"

She looked at me with dull eyes, still slightly surprised. "What...Lily?" She looked dizzy and I went over to help her sit down. This happened when she got hungry or angry. I take out her meds from her bag, she has been taking them since her accident. She took them immediately and her eyes cleared slightly. "Sorry Lily, I was hangry. We missed breakfast and lunch today. I only had a small dinner last night." She explained.

Truth be told, I haven't eaten anything either. I smile. "It's fine, just be glad that I was feeling better, or you might have attacked our suspect in your hangry fit." I smirke, finally turning to see the suspect in question. I have to hold my tongue as I look down at his paper. Christian Morgan, is Kids real name. How...fitting. "Hello Mr Morgan, could you please inform me and my coworker how you got your wounds?" I ask in monotone. He shook his head then looked at me as if he was looking at a ghost. Then again, he kinda is. Then his eyes turn red, and it makes me want to run from the room, or attack. I close my eyes and calm down. "You still haven't answered my question."

"Sorry Pretty, It is just an old wound from a bar fight." He says confidently. I raise one of my eyebrows questionly, as he looks no older than 17. "I might look young, beautiful, but I'm 22. I am old enough to be in a bar fight, and date if you're interested."

I roll my eyes, I can tell he is lying, but I keep it to myself. "We will need a blood sample just in case." It was an annoying, but helpful new rule that came after with the Dawn project to catch criminals easier. I walk over to the door to see if there is a doctor nearby to take blood. I bit back a few choice words as I came back into the room. I take out my CSI kit, "Since there are no doctors or nurses, I will have to do it." I say as I take out the pin and walk over. Mir is still unsteady, and her hands are still shaking. There is no way that she would be able to do anything for a while.

I sit down beside him, while ignoring him. "Finger," I didn't give him a chance to retort. He didn't do anything so I forcefully took his hand. I quickly pricked his finger and get the blood. As I got up the pen fell and I poked myself. I bit my lip, as I quickly pull it out and put my finger in my mouth. It has already stopped bleeding, but it still hurts.

I walk over to Mir, getting away from the hungry vampire in the process. I can see Kid's eyes were dilated and he licked his lips. It made me super uncomfortable. I grab Mir's arm and drag her to the door. I turn back to him. "Don't leave town," I order as we left. I ask for two guards to guard Kid and the first guy we saw.

We made our way back to work. I have to drive because Mir couldn't. She takes the last of her medicine and is now taking a nap. I wake her up when we get back. She heads straight to her working area to finish her nap while I go to inform the other CSI teams about the first guy we met in the hospital. They are ecstatic to finally have a lead. Not really, but they are grateful that they didn't have to search the hospitals themselves. Turns out I wasn't the only one that felt weird in the old buildings.
