Almost the moment they saw Cain's face, Jessica and Curtis immediately recognized him as the child they had been searching for all this time.
They had endured more than a year of hardship in their search, only for Emily to be the one who finally found him. It was truly unimaginable. The world really was round after all.
But the instant she pulled Cain into her arms, Jessica felt how pitifully thin his body was. Her heart felt as though it were being torn apart. What had her son been forced to endure?
Emily also wanted to comfort Jessica, but Saphen was still asleep, or perhaps unconscious, and she could not tell which. She could only offer a few words of comfort before quickly leaving.
