"You're not fine. You look like you haven't slept in a week." Daxton hands him a towel, watching as Kayden wipes his face with mechanical precision. "Have you talked to Andrea?"
"That defeats the purpose of a separation."
"The purpose of a separation is to gain perspective, not to torture yourself—and her—by going completely no contact." Daxton's voice sharpens. "You made her move out of your apartment, Kayden. Your shared apartment. Do you have any idea how fucked up that is?"
"She agreed to it."
"Because you gave her no choice!" Daxton runs a hand through his hair, frustration bleeding into his tone. "What happened to you? You used to be the most emotionally intelligent person I knew. Now you're acting like... I don't even know what."
Kayden's jaw tightens. "I'm protecting myself."
