Kayden is reviewing construction timelines when his phone rings with a number he doesn't recognize. He almost sends it to voicemail—has been sending everything to voicemail lately—but something makes him answer.
"This is Kayden."
"It's Yeila." Her voice is tight, barely controlled panic bleeding through. "I'm at Mercy General. Andrea collapsed. They're running tests and—"
Kayden is moving before Yeila finishes the sentence. Grabbing his jacket, his keys, his wallet, his mind already calculating the fastest route to the hospital while his heart hammers against his ribs with a fear so visceral it tastes like metal.
"What happened?" He's in the elevator, pressing the button for the parking garage repeatedly like that will make it move faster.
"I don't know exactly. Someone called 911 from a parking lot. They said she just... went down. The doctors think it's exhaustion and dehydration but they're checking for—" Yeila's voice cracks. "Can you just get here? Please?"
