Jefferson's POV

"Time to go home."

The voice sliced through my concentration like a blade. I lifted my eyes from the laptop screen, irritation flooding through me before I could identify the speaker. Gordon stood in my office doorway, arms crossed, wearing that stubborn expression that meant he wasn't backing down.

I turned back to my work, hoping he'd take the hint. He didn't.

"It's been five days, Jefferson."

My eyebrow arched. "How exactly would you know that?"

"Cathrine mentioned it," he said, stepping into my office uninvited. "Look, whatever happened with Elisabeth has turned you into a complete nightmare. I wasn't going to say anything, but you're destroying morale down there. Everyone's walking on eggshells, terrified of making mistakes. Nadia was in tears when I came up here."

My jaw clenched. "She should be grateful she still has a job. Nobody can follow simple instructions anymore."
