I didn't bring up Isobel with Morris again.
Once we wrapped up dinner, he grabbed his keys to head out, promising he'd swing by to get me after work wrapped up.
These past few days, Morris had been practically attached to my hip, so his sudden absence left me feeling oddly adrift. The quiet felt strange, unsettling even.
I pushed those wandering thoughts aside and dove headfirst into my work.
By afternoon, heavy clouds began gathering over Marcel, casting everything in a oppressive gray that made the entire city feel suffocating.
When I slipped out for a bathroom break, I caught snippets of my colleagues griping at their desks.
"What's with this crazy weather? I guarantee it'll be dumping rain by quitting time."
"The weather app didn't even predict this. I lugged my umbrella around all week during that sunny streak, and naturally, today when it looks nasty, I leave it at home. Perfect timing."
