Ana's POV
At city hall, Ridley and I completed our divorce registration. The clerk told us to return soon to pick up the final decree.
"Now that we've filed for divorce, it wouldn't be right for me to remain at the Collin Mansion. I'll gather my belongings and leave tomorrow," I said.
"Do whatever you want," Ridley responded icily. Before walking away, he delivered one final jab. "We'll see how long it takes before you come crawling back."
He still thought my determination to end our marriage was just a tantrum—that I was lashing out because he hadn't stood up for me at the school event and had chosen to shield Aileen instead.
But given the circumstances, he'd had to protect the Collin family's image. Plus, Aileen was my sister, and my petty jealousy kept me from embracing that bond.
Now I wasn't even a Welch anymore—just another nobody.
Walking away from him meant abandoning a life of luxury.
