Morris's POV
When I received Ana's message, I'd already tracked down leads on whoever was pulling the strings and was racing to the location.
Exhaustion painted dark shadows under my eyes, but her simple greeting seemed to ease the tension in my features.
Without hesitation, I typed back.
[Work's going well. Wait for me.]
The words flowed from my fingers before I could second-guess them.
The moment I hit send, something shifted inside me.
Those words—'wait for me'—felt heavier than I'd intended, carrying a weight of promise I wasn't sure I was ready to make.
I stared at the screen, then quickly added another message.
[Please stay safe.]
A soft smile tugged at my mouth.
In that instant, all the sleepless nights seemed to melt away.
I made up my mind to wrap things up in Aethel quickly and get back to her.
Something told me good news was waiting in Marcel.
We texted back and forth a few more times.
