Chapter 1 - Chapter 1

Alicia's POV

I gasped, my hand clutching tightly to the dining table. My chest drummed, and I tried my best to

steady myself. I had donated blood to a strange woman yesterday, but the effect of the donation

was still very much evident.

Everything around me spun, and it took about fifteen minutes for me to recover. I exhaled

through my lips, my chest pacing in the exact manner.

'Thank goodness yesterday was my last…" I breathed, and then smiled.

According to what the doctor advised, I wasn't supposed to indulge in any stressful activity, but

today was my anniversary, and I had to make a special dinner for my husband Rowen, more like

a surprise.

Once the table was set up, I took a quick shower, and got dressed in a very appealing dress.

However, my facial expression changed when he hadn't returned home despite promising to be

back by 6pm.

I pulled my phone out of my pocket, wrinkles on my forehead. 'Where the hell are you?'' I

mouthed, trying to navigate his number.

Dialling it didn't take time. However, after several attempts to reach him failed. I knew something

must have been wrong.

Rowan would never bail on me, and always found a way to make me smile.

Without wasting much time, I grabbed my keys, and headed to the car. I knew I wasn't fit to

drive, but I felt he was in danger.

'Maybe he was still at the hospital working," I tried to convince myself as I rushed towards the

car.

Once in, I started the car, and was on my way to the hospital, my mind still whirling around the

negative side of things, but I tried to be positive.

Finally arriving, I made sure to park the car properly before rushing through the entrance. My

hair was messy, my eyes darting around until I sighted the receptionist.

I heaved, trying to calm my raging heart before I got to her desk.

"Good day ma'am… how may I help you?" She asked with raised brows, and I immediately

flashed her a warm smile despite my ragged breathing.

"Um, I'm looking for Doctor Rowen. I'm hoping he's still at the hospital right?" She paused,

wrinkles on her forehead it was obvious she was actually worried about the way I approached

her.

I laughed nervously. "He's my husband and today's our anniversary. I'm just trying to surprise

him, please help me out here," I pressed my lips together, my eyes fixed on her green ones as I

waited for her response.

She sighed. "He's with a patient. Check the private ward, B."

My face became puzzled because that room sounded awfully familiar.

"Alright. Thank you," my words were simple as I directed my feet in the path she had described.

Soon, the brown door was before me, and I drew in a deep breath, making sure to put myself in

order pushing the door open.

However, as soon as the door opened, the huge smile that spread across my lips slowly started

to fade, and I blinked multiple times to make sure my eyes weren't playing tricks on me.

"Rowen!" I screamed, and immediately fisted my hands. From happiness to anger, I had so

many questions. Today was supposed to be our anniversary, and here he was entangled with

another woman.

Hearing his name made him pull away from the woman, making her face to be revealed, and

only then did my eyes widen, my face pale as a new wave of shock hit.

"You?" I questioned, turning to Rowen who stared back into my blue eyes without remorse. His

well-structured face gave no hint of remorse.

"Wasn't she the one you pleaded with me to donate my blood to, and now you're cheating on

me with her?!" My tone that was low with shock had started to rise in anger.

I expected an answer, but he didn't say a thing which angered me more.

"SAY SOMETHING!" veins popped up from my head, hands, and neck, and I glared daggers at

them, gnashing my teeth.

"Say something? Alright, I'll say something." He paused, but continued almost immediately. "Yes

she's the one you have been donating blood to. Jane's the love of my life, and you were the

closest match I could find, so yes, I made sure to use you to cure her." He paused again, this

time standing up to his feet, and taking her hands.

"The last blood you donated made her totally well, and now that she's back on her feet, she

needs to take her–"

"Don't you dare say it! No one is doing anything. How dare you use me in such a way, how–"

Jane, his mistress, immediately interrupted. "We didn't use you. You rendered a service." She

spread a smirk on her lips. "By the way, thanks for saving my life."

Tears gathered in my eyes, and I felt my heart sink. "T-today was supposed to be our

anniversary, today was–"

He raised his hands, interrupting my words immediately.

"Yes I'm aware, and I have a gift for you, Alicia…"

I blinked a ray of hope shining. However, he picked up a file from the bed, and threw it, making it

wack me on the face. I pulled it open, and was shocked with what I saw there.

"Divorce?!"

Raising my head, I saw that his expression was now on his little queen.

"You're calling it off because of her?!"

"Yes. Now sign it. I can't wait to be with her. Sign it, or I'll make your life a living hell!"

I stared at both of them, my hands shaking. There was no point staying, he had clearly made his

point. Rowen wanted Jane, and not me.

It was a tough choice, but I pulled out the paper, taking in a deep breath before drawing my

signature. My years of commitment annulled by a single signature.

"Yes, finally!" Jane squealed with joy. She seemed happy to see me in misery.

As I tried to process what had just happened, Rowen's voice sounded, making me focus on him

again.

"Leave here now, and I do not want to ever see you close to me, do you understand? The house

now belongs to Jane and me," he explained all he had in his heart while I struggled to mend my

broken heart, fighting back the tears that threatened to fall off.

Not wanting to look back, I immediately sped off from the office, then to the exit, and then to a

nearby bus stop.

As soon as I got there, I sat down, and since the place was a bit void of people, I screamed as

loud as I could, unable to control my tears.

"All these years! Years of dedication!!!" I banged on the steering wheel, not caring about my

hands that turned red from the impact. I was filled with grief, and unspeakable pain.

Somehow, I was able to get a bus out of there, my next bus stop being the bar. I walked out of

the car, my face, showing dead emotions.

I struggled to walk into the bar, and take a seat.

"What can I get you today ma'am," the bartender asked, eyes fixed on me. However, I slowly

lifted my eyes, my gaze dark.

"Your strongest shot, keep it coming."

The bartender gave me a shot, and soon, I was on three, then seven. It got to a point, his gaze

showed worry.

"Are you sure you're okay ma'am?" He asked. However, I moved away from there. My life was

slowly slipping away. My goal was to reach the restroom to relieve myself from all the pain I had

suffered.

I pushed open the bathroom door, and closed it behind me, resting my back as tears slipped

away. Who knew one divorce could shatter my life.

As I cried, my eyes looked around, and I noticed a shred of glass. I moved closer, grabbing the

glass with shaky hands, and tears streaming down my eyes.

The crazy idea to slit my hands played on my mind, and I didn't mind because I was in pain. I

felt like dying.

Just then, there was a knock on the door. I paid no attention, simply focusing on sliding my wrist

when the door pushed open.

The last thing I recalled was the bartender rushing towards me, and I, crashing into his arms

before everything turned dark.
