Ash stepped through viridian forest still trying think about earlier.
' ho-oh .....as in THE ho-oh . But why was it here in kanto . I know it wasn't an illusion because no normal pokemon can generate that much power ' the glow and power he felt , stuck in his brain .
' ok maybe it's best if i focus on getting through viridian forest first and make sure I don't accidentally bumb into any kakuna ' he thought with a shiver as he looked up to see if there were any .
There were non so far which was good news.
Where you saw one , that ment a hive was nearby .
He looked back and saw squirtle and pikachu not far behind him.
" Hey squirtle ? i think it's best if i return you to your pokeball just incase there's a battle and your to tired to fight okay ? " he told the water type .
Squirtle looked at ash and nodded .
Taking his pokeball , ash returned squirtle to his pokeball .
He decided to leave pikachu so they can bond more .
As they walked through the forest ash looked around and wondered if there were any pokemon that would fit the team .
Problem was however that he already had pikachu and squirtle and it felt like that was enough.
Also most of the pokemon in viridian forest won't be good against brock anyway.
He wouldn't mind a beerdrill though. If they didn't chase anything that came to there kakuna's and weedle's .
' it even says here on the website , that the league has to "trim" the beedrill population to make sure it doesn't bother people ' he said looking on his rotom phone .
' it also says here that there are two paths , one for pokemon trainers and one for non pokemon trainers . The one for trainers is a path filled with primarily beerdrill hives , a couple of butterfree's and the rare pidgeotto's . And the one for non trainers are filled with mostly weedle's , pidgey , catapie's and pikachu's ' he read on the web page.
He was gonna have to take the trainer path if he wanted to battle other trainers . It may have been less peaceful but it was the life of a trainer after all .
" ok pikachu were going to a more dangerous part of the forest , so keep a look out for any aggressive bug types ok ? " he asked the yellow electric type.
" pika " pikachu nodded with a determined expression.
With that they continued to move through the forest.
' this is the perfect time to get pikachu stronger , let's just avoid any poison types just incase '
While he had Antidotes in his bag , he didn't want to take the risk .
" Hey I challenge you to a battle " a voice suddenly called out to him .
As he looked around to who called him , he saw it was a boy with a net . Judging by his outfit he looked like a bug type trainer.
" sure 2 on 2 ? " ash asked
" no problem , go weedle ! " The boy agreed before sending out his pokemon that revealed it itself to be the orange poison and bug type .
' well there goes my plan to avoid poison type , at least it will give pikachu some experience ' he thought looking at his opponent.
" ok pikachu your up , first battle " he said to the yellow mouse .
Pikachu up in front of ash as his cheeks sparkled with electricity.
" ok weedle use poison sting " the bug trainer yelled.
The bug type raised it's head in and fired the barbs of poison at pikachu.
" Dodge with quick attack " ash told him .
Pikachu's body glowed with a thin white light and shot foward with speed , dodging the poison sting before closing in and slaming into weedle .
" now use use thunder shock ! " he said not giving his opponent a chance to recover.
Pikachu changed up the thunder shock before releasing the electricity at weedle .
" Dodge it quick " weedle's trainer yelled but it was to late .
The attack was hurled at weedle who couldn't get out of the way in time and got hit by the attack .
It was to much and the bug type fainted from the move .
" you did well weedle return " the boy sighed.
The battle was short which made sence because of how weedle's were not known for their strength.
" go caterpie " the opposing trainer sent out his next pokemon which revealed it self to be caterpie .
' this guy is probably a beginner , like me ' ash said noticing his two pokemon were two bug types known for being easy to capture and quick to evolve.
" string shot ! " His opponent shouted.
Caterpie shot out strings of silk at pikachu , covering the electric type in it making it difficult for pikachu to move .
" now tackle "
Caterpie charged foward as fast as it could before tackling pikachu.
The attack didn't do much .
" pikachu use thunder shock " ash said not bothering with physical attack.
Pikachu cheeks sparkled with electricity before firing it at the bug type .
The attack hit caterpie , who didn't have time to dodge was easily overwhelmed by the attack and was fainted.
'That was easy , then again we're not that deep in the forest . Trainers will probably get more challenging the deeper we go ' ash thought as the bug type trainer returned his pokemon to his pokeball.
With the battle over . after getting the silk off pikachu , he continued his walk through the forest.
After a few minutes of walking they made it to a clearing.
" ok pikachu we're gonna need to start training to improve you speed , strength and reaction . I know you won that battle easily but not every battle is going to be the same " ash said to the yellow mouse , now having stopped in the open clearing to start their training.
" pika " pikachu nodded in determination.
" ok first I'm going to need you to try practicing your quick attack to get the hang of it better , you know for Dodging and invading attacks mid charge " ash instructed him .
Pikachu listen to ash and with flash of white light , disappeared in a burst of quick attack.
Not only would this help increase his stamina but it would also help learn and master double team faster .
He checked on the website and it showed that by having your pokemon practice moves like quick attack , extreme speed or agility , it helps your pokemon learn double team much faster and easier.
As pikachu trained , ash was deep in thought.
' should i have him start learning brick break first or iron tail ? ' he wondered.
Considering they were in a bug forest and bug types were resistant to fighting types and some of them were poison types , it sounds like a good idea for pikachu to start with iron tail .
' let's see here ' ash said as he seached through the instructions on learning iron tail.
It wasn't too complicated to understand , he just needed to get a better understanding about the attack so it wouldn't too take long.
A few minutes passed by .
Ash also released squirtle out of his pokeball and had him continue to work on bubble and pikachu to improving his speed to learn double team based on the instructions ash gave him.
He will learn iron tail and brick break after he masters double team enough to be effective in battle .
As ash was making plans for the future , his mind kept going back to that moment.
' ho-oh ' he thought.
He still couldn't get it out of his mind . That bright light , that overwhelming power. He could still remember clearly in his mind like it happened a seconds moments ago and it was still hard to believe.
A legendary !
One that has not been seen for who knows how many years !
Ash has been looking over the history of ho-oh while pikachu and squirtle train.
The story is that a lightning bolt struck one of the towers towers of ecruteak city in johto , the towers being said to have been built to bring hope between people and pokemon.
The lightning that struck one of the towers caused a fire that went on for three days non stop , until a sudden rain put the flames out.
But the tower had already been burned to the ground . And even worse three unknown pokemon had died in the fire but ho-oh descended from the sky and brought them back to life into the legendary beasts everyone knew them as today.
Raikou , entai and suicune .
Raikou to represent the lighting that struck the tower , entai to represent the flames that burned the tower , and suicune to symbolize the rain that put out the flames.
But people were afraid of them , so they left . A normal pseudo legendary in your town would make people nervous/panic , now imagine three legendaries each as powerfull as the champion's strongerst pokemon.
People have spent years and money to get even a glimpse of ho-oh and the beasts .
But no amount of praying or investing ever revealed anything.
Especially to the arrogant trainers that thought just because they had won a league or were told they were prodigies .
No one saw ho-oh for years until he saw it today .
' but why me ? What do i have that made ho-oh show up to me specifically ? ' he wondered.
It couldn't be random.
And even with the rainbow wing , some would assume it was painted or man made so almost no one would believe him.
' who knows ? Right now though I need to focus on the things I do know ' with that he put those thoughts away and decided to check on his pokemon.
As made his way towards them he saw they were making progress.
Squirtle had been training bubble and it looked much more stronger now .
Pikachu had improved just as much .
He had learnt double team but was only able to make two copies with all together made three .
' let me check how strong they've gotten ' taking out his rotom phone and gave his team a check up .
Squirtle
Moves : tackle , tail whip , water gun, withdraw , bubble .
Ash took notice of tail whip .
Most moves when not used in a while just fade . Ash just didn't have a reason to use tail whip that much .
He then moved to pikachu .
Pikachu
Moves : quick attack , thunder shock , thunder wave , double team.
" not bad guys , take a break " ash told them.
The two stopped training and sat down rest at hearing ash .
" your making good progress guys , some of the moves could use a bit more control but if we keep improving at the same rate we are now ? The league will be ours ! " ash declared with determination in his eye's.
" pika" "squirtle " they both cried out.
Ash couldn't help but smile at them . He put away his rotom phone and took a look around the forest .
It was calm
Rays of sun light shined through the trees . Several metapod were seen in the trees hidden from bird pokemon.
Like the large pidgeotto that was perching on the tree branch not far from ash .
' yeah not going anywhere near that thing '
It was probably not a good idea to get closer to the pokemon that looked like it could take on both of his pokemon at the same time and win.
Type advantage or not .
" ok guys let's get a move on " he said to them after giving them a few minutes of rest .
Ash brought them back to their pokeballs and after making sure he didn't leave anything behind he continued onwards.
As he kept going he noticed something.
It was more peaceful than he expected. He thought he would have to face swarms of beerdrill's but things were going smoothly so far.
' I mean i seen a couple of Ariados's a few times , but things are going pretty well ' he thought as he looked around .
Don't get him wrong , it was filled with bugs . Spinarak webs , a couple of butterfree's flying above him and that pidgeotto he saw .
But things were going very well for him .
It wasn't long before he found another trainer.
" Hey want a pokemon battle ? " ash asked as he approached the boy .
" sure " the boy said .
After agreeing on it being 2 on 2 they both released their pokemons.
" kakuna let's go "
" pikachu your up "
They both threw their pokeballs and with a flash of light they were released.
Pikachu stood ready against his opponent which revealed itself to be a kakuna.
The yellow bug type stood across the field glaring at pikachu.
" poison sting " the boy ordered .
" quick attack just like we practiced " ash told the electric type.
Kakuna shot the poison barbs at pikachu. The purple stings flew straight at him , forcing pikachu to dodge with quick attack as they hit the area where he previously was and dash straight towards the bug type.
" block with harden " the boy told kakuna , seeing pikachu.
The bug type coated itself in a silver coating.
Pikachu slammed into kakuna at high speed but harden minimized the damage kakuna took from the attack .
' I might have to rely on long ranged attacks until an opening comes up ' ash couldn't take risk it and get pikachu poison .
" use thunder shock " he said to pikachu.
Pikachu charged the attack before he released it at the poison type.
The thunder shock hit kakuna as it cried out in pain.
" poison sting kakuna , he can't attack when he's dodging " the boy told his pokemon .
Trying to ignore the pain , the evolution of weedle once again launched the swam of poison barbs .
But this time ash was ready .
" use Double team pikachu " ash told him.
Pikachu remembered his training before he exucuted the move .
He dodged the attack before two exact copies appeared by his side.
His opponent was surprised by this but his trainer was quick to give him directions .
" don't panic kakuna , and find the real one with string shot " the boy ordered his pokemon.
Kakuna listened to his trainer and shot out string shot at the moving pikachu to try and find the real one .
But it didn't work.
Kakuna was barely able to hit one of the copies and it turned out to be a fake .
" now close in " ash said to pikachu.
Pikachu zoomed in invading string shots and landed the quick attack , knocking kakuna down .
" now finish him with thunder shock " ash was quick to take advantage.
Pikachu cheeks sparkled with electricity before he firing the thunder shock at kakuna.
It landed on its target as kakuna was shocked before fainted from the attack.
" return kakuna you did well " the boy said as he returned his pokemon to it's pokeball before taking his second pokemon.
" now go Nidoran " he yelled .
The pokeball opened to reveal a male Nidoran.
' it's going to be risky for pikachu to land physical hits with those spInes '
" return pikachu " with a flash of light pikachu was sent back to his pokeball.
" go squirtle " his starter was switched out of his pokeball ready for whatever opponent he was facing.
" horn attack nodoran " the boy said being the one of the two to make a move.
"Withdraw " ash countered .
The Nidoran charged foward at squirtle. The water type following his trainer's orders withdrew into his shell .
The horn attack landed but it didn't do a lot thanks to withdrew .
"Use bubble " ash said
Squirtle exited his shell before firing a spay of bubbles at Nidoran .
Nidoran was hit by the water attack, throwing him back a bit .
" poison sting " the opposing trainer said.
Getting right back into position again , Nidoran Unleashed a barrage of poison barbs at squirtle.
" water gun to block the attack " ash told squirtle , thinking quick.
Squirtle following ash's command , fired a blast of water at the poison stings.
The water gun hit the barbs , preventing them from reaching the starter .
" focus energy " his opponent said.
Nidoran was then surrounded with a burst of orange energy. With his muscles tence , he took a deep breath.
" use bubble " ash told squirtle , taking advantage of Nidoran's position .
Squirtle fired a swarm of bubbles at the poison type .
Just having used focus energy Nidoran didn't have time to dodge the Attack and was hit .
Bubble landed , adding to the previous damage Nidoran took earlier.
" Peck " said the boy immediately as soon as the attack ended.
Nidoran trying to ignore the damage from previous attack , rushed foward .
"Intercept him mid charge with water gun ! " ash informed squirtle.
Listening to ash's command , squirtle fired a water gun directly at the Nidoran.
It hit the poison type, canceling the move sending nidoran flying back .
It landed on the ground in front of his trainer , the swirls in his eye's signaling he has fainted.
" Alright ! good job squirtle . You did amazing" ash congratulated his starter .
" squirtle ! " squirtle shouted.
He was happy that even if he lost to bulbasaur , he was still winning battles.
Meanwhile
The boy clenched his fist before sighing.
" nice job Nidoran , you did good " he told the pokemon before he returned him to his pokeball.
" Hey that was a nice battle " he looked up and saw ash standing with his hand out.
".....yeah it was " he said after a few seconds before he reached out and shook his hand .
They both smiled before they went their separate ways .
A few minutes later
" Allright so the map says that there is a beerdrill hive not far from from here , that explained the increase of kakuna we've seen since entering this part of the forest " ash said as he looked up from his map on his rotom phone to the kakunas in the trees.
There wasn't a lot of them but it was a slight increase from the normal amount he saw since entering the forest .
" I should be safe as long as i stay on the trail and not make to much noise " he said as he checked the best path through viridian forest.
while it was mostly safe , there were part's of the forest that had much more dangerous pokemon that beginners like him should avoid.
He had returned squirtle to his pokeball happy his starter was over his previous defeat.
' ok we just have to stay on the right parth and we'll be there in no time ' ash thought.
And so he continued walking. Trying to avoid making any loud noises or taking any shorcuts unless he wanted to end up facing a swarm of scythers .
' I should be close to the exit , can't be long now ' he thought.
As he kept walking , he was met with a strange sight before him.
It was a boy in samurai Armour with a fake sword at his side.
He looked like a knock off version of wikstrom , the steel elite four of kalos.
" Uuuuhhhh hello ? " ash asked the boy , unsure if he was a trainer or just lost .
The boy seemed to hear and turned over with a surprise look on his face .
" hello there ! You wouldn't be a trainer from pallet town would you ? " he asked seriously.
" yeah I am why ? " he answered the boy . Curiously wondering what he wanted.
As ash revealed he was from pallet town . The boy's expression transformed from serious to joy.
" that's great ! I've been defeated by a another boy from pallet earlier and he said that a weaker trainer from the same town was on his way here as well . So I've been standing here and waiting for you ever since " the boy said with determination.
' gary ' ash thought a bit annoyed.
" sure I'll battle you , 2 on 2 " ash said .
" Thank you " the boy thanked him.
They both went to a nearby spot and took positions on the opposite sides of the battle field.
" i thank you for accepting my challenge , but I still have to avenge my lose by defeating you " he said as he took a pokeball from his side .
" well i don't plan on lossing , so your out of luck " ash said removing a pokeball from his belt before they both called out their pokemons.
" metapod defensive positions "
" pikachu I choose you "
With a bright light both pokemons were brought out to the field .
" string shot " the fake samurai ordered
" Dodge it and use thunder shock " ash told pikachu.
As metapod shot strings of silks at his opponent , pikachu jumped out of the way just in time to avoid the move.
Then with a spark of electricity , he fired the thunder shock straight at metapod .
It landed it's target as it struck the bug type , causing it to wince in pain from the slight electric shock .
" now use quick attack ! " ash said to pikachu.
" harden quickly " the boy countered.
Pikachu shot foward in a white glow trailing behind him .
Metapod was barely able to use harden before pikachu's quick attack connected.
While it reduced the damage ,but it also bumped him back a bit .
" tackle while he is close enough " said the false samurai.
Metapod tried to jump foward to tackle pikachu.
But the electric type leaped out of the way , dodging the attack swiftly.
Something that brought a smile to ash's face.
" great job pikachu , double team ! " he said.
Two copies of pikachu appeared . Each one by his side but spread out far enough that metapod would not get all of them in one move .
' this isn't good ' the opposing pokemon trainer said .
" string shot " he needed to take out as many copies as he can .
" thunder shock " ash called out .
Metapod tried to target one of the pikachu's with string shot but it turned out to be a copy .
The real pikachu cheeks sparkled with electricity before he released the attack.
Thunder shock zoomed through towards metapod before it hit .
" Meta" the bug cried out .
" Now before it can recover , use quick attack" ash said
Pikachu's body was covered in a white glow before he ran at metapod at high speed .
The pseudo samurai didn't have time to call out an order before the quick attack made contact.
Metapod was knocked back to its trainer before it fell to the ground fainted.
Ash's opponent narrowed his eyes .
" your pokemon are skilled but this battle isn't over yet ! " he said as he returned his metapod .
" that's good because I'm just getting started" ash told his opponent before he did the same and returned pikachu to his pokeball.
The samurai kid and ash then both threw out their pokemons.
Squirtle stood in front of ash ready to face his opponent.
His opponent much to the surprise of ash was a pinsir.
' is that a pinsir ? Where did he get one of those ! It looks young so I don't think he caught it , not with that metapod i Don't think'
It looked like it was still young and not fully grown yet so winning this battle was possible.
" squirtle use bubble " ash told squirtle.
The water starter then fired a barage of bubbles at pinsir .
This forced the bug type to try and shield itself from the attack but to no avail as it took damage from the water attack.
" bind " samurai said .
" Withdraw " countered ash.
After the attack ended , pinsir ran foward with it's pincers rotating to the front to grab squirtle.
But before he could , squirtle withdrew in his shell.
Pinsir grabbed the starter and lifted him in the air . His pincers being prevented from doing any damage by squirtles shell.
Even with squirtle using withdraw ash could tell he needed to get him out of there .
And fast
" use water gun "
Still inside his shell , squirtle shot a strong water gun at the stag beetle pokemon.
Causing it pain.
" Throw him away " the boy said .
As pinsir was hit by the water gun , hearing his trainers words he thew squirtle at the nearest tree .
But as it did ash saw something weird.
Squirtle Was thrown away but as he was still using water gun , the water had a strange effect of making a spiral pattern as his shell spun through the air .
' Wow ! We might need to look into that when we get to pewter city ' putting that at the back of his mind he went back to squirtle.
He had hit a nearby tree but was relatively ok as his shell shielded him from damage.
" you ok squirtle ? " ash asked his starter.
" squirt" he said , nodding in confirmation.
" good now hit it with another water gun " ash told squirtle.
Squirtle fired a water gun at pinsir again . Putting in a strong amount of concentration in the attack.
It hit pinsir directly. The increased of power in the move making it stronger than last time and caused the bug type to cry out in pain.
Ash knew it would be smart on paper to switch to pikachu. With his speed and paralysis , he could easily dodge it's attacks . But he wanted to have fate in squirtle .
The water attack ended , leaving an injured pinsir in it's wake .
' pinsire isn't looking too good , I am going to have to finish this quickly ' the samurai thought.
" use tackle " the boy ordered.
" withdraw " ash countered.
Pinsir changed at squirtle , aiming to tackle the starter but squirtle withdrew in his shell like last time .
Pinsir tackled squirtle , sending him flying back a little before he he came to stop .
" use bubble squirtle " ash told squirtle .
It was time this battle came to a end .
Squirtle fired the attack at pinsir. The spay of bubbles hit pinsir in swarms . The attack looked harmless but some people will tell you from experience that it does in fact hurt .
Pinsir was forced to take a few steps back from the attack . The damage it took from the battle was taking its toll .
"Finish this squirtle , tackle " ash gave the final command.
At the beginning of the battle , this would not have done that much . Maybe a small amount maybe a big amount. But with pinsir on his last legs , it's enough.
Squirtle stopped the attack and ran at pinsir who was recovering from the previous attack.
" pinsir block it ! Dodge ! " The samurai tried to yell but the bug type didn't hear him.
But it was too late as squirtle tackled pinsir knocking the stag beetle pokemon down .
As ash and the fake samurai looked over to the results , they saw that pinsir had fainted.
" no that's impossible ! It's just like last time . I didn't even defeat a single pokemon." The samurai boy cried in despair.
" nice job squirtle ! I knew you could do it " ash congratulated his starter as he approached him .
" squirtl ! " he called out running to over to ash .
Ash held out his hand , to which squirtle met in a high five .
" well it seems you have won " the kid samurai said as he approached ash , having recalled his pinsir already.
" yeah , you did pretty well too " ash complemented him .
" I still lost without taking down a single pokemon . Maybe the problem is not with my opponents , but with me " he said as he closed his eyes before he opened them again .
" nevertheless i thank you for the battle . Trainers from your town must have incredible talent " the samurai boy said as he bowed at ash.
" yeah uuhhh thanks " ash said unsure of how to react .
" farewell ash ketchum of pallet town , may you bring your family great glory " said the fake samurai , before he turned around and walked off .
' what a weird guy ' ash couldn't help but thing .
He shook off those thoughts before releasing pikachu from his pokeball.
" great job guys , that pinsir was one the strongest pokemon we've battled so far ! Second only to gary's Bulbasaur as a close maybe " ash informed his pokemon .
Squirtle looked happy while pikachu looked confused until squirtle told him about the battle which caused pikachu to let out a cry of happiness.
" pikachu ! "
Ash could only smile at his pokemon before he set his bag down and started to look for something in it .
It wasn't long before he found it .
It was the extra food they had gotten at the previous pokemon center .
" I know we're close to pewter city but you guys did great out there so here you go " he said as he gave them the food .
They immediately started to dig in , no doubt hungry from the training and battling.
' we didn't even get to practice iron tail . Meh next time ' he thought.
The food was great for pokemon. It gave them the extra energy and strength they needed.
After squirtle and pikachu had finished eating , he returned them to their pokeballs.
" I know you guys are exgusted from battling so let me return you to your pokeballs so you don't waste anymore energy " ash said , looking down at the pokeballs in his hands .
Plus they just ate , so rest was needed !
After he put their pokeballs back on his belt ,he continued walking.
It wasn't long before he found the exit and made his way out of the forest.
Not noticing a small green figure watching behind a bush.
