Chapter 1 - Chapter 1. This System Seems a Little Unreliable

A person's life is...

Oh, my bad. For Aaron Voss, who had just crossed over into this world for more than three seconds, this was already his second life.

It was best not to mention his past life. As an orphan from an orphanage, who had finally worked his way through school, paid his tuition, and found a job, only to be hit and killed on the street by an out-of-control dump truck... well, others wouldn't sympathize with you even if you told them.

And after crossing into this world, Aaron had originally wanted to shout "Hell yeah!" after realizing he'd gotten a second life.

But after he saw the street sign next to him, with the three big words [Soukai City] on it, Aaron suddenly froze.

The name Soukai City wasn't that special; he'd seen this place name in more than one ACG work.

The problem was, one of those worlds had reached a point where any ordinary man who went there would almost certainly die a violent death.

After spending over an hour finding a map of the area, Aaron felt like he was having trouble breathing.

He really wanted to tell himself that this was all fake.

But the problem was, this electronic map could search for names he was familiar with but desperately didn't want to see, like [Arc City] and [Nagazora City].

"Holy crap, it's the Honkai world."

"Now, I'm screwed."

The Honkai world. In this world's setting, there was a special energy called Honkai Energy.

For people without Honkai Energy adaptability, encountering it and having their bodies infected was almost equivalent to direct death.

Even people with some resistance weren't necessarily better off.

If you were lucky, you'd live out your life in pain, bearing the damage the Honkai Energy did to your body.

If you were unlucky, your body might be zombified after infection.

Of course, if you were like Chen Tianwu, that number one unlucky bastard, a male with extremely high Honkai Energy adaptability, you might just win yourself a Herrscher Core.

And after getting a Herrscher Core, if nothing unexpected happened, you'd become a puppet of the Honkai.

Then, after your body was controlled by the Honkai, you'd go on a rampage against your will, and finally be killed by the righteous Valkyries.

"Wow, just great. The script is already written. When does filming start?"

Aaron, speaking sarcastic nonsense with a blank face, slumped onto a nearby public bench. Staring at the blazing sun in the sky, he fell into deep thought.

It's currently spring 2014... Wait, why is the sun so strong in spring? This is Shenzhou, right?

Forget it, don't worry about that detail.

Anyway, it's spring, and 2014 is on the table, which means this is the Current Era.

Spring 2014 of the Current Era. K423, Raiden Mei, and Bronya Zaychik are preparing to escape from Nagazora City.

And during their escape, K423 will be severely injured by a Honkai Beast, and Raiden Mei, unable to suppress the other personality in her Herrscher Core due to K423's injuries, will have her body temporarily taken over by the Herrscher of Thunder.

Although the three of them resolved the crisis in the end and successfully entered St. Freya Academy, most of the people in Nagazora City were basically toast.

From this perspective, I should probably thank whoever threw me into this world for not dumping me in Nagazora City right at the start.

Otherwise, with my frail body that's only a tiny bit stronger than an average person's, I suspect I would've been... oh wait, I might not even have Honkai adaptability. I might have just died painlessly at the very beginning.

In short, starting in Soukai City is at least better than starting in Nagazora City. Congratulations, congratulations.

But what should I do now?

If I'm an ordinary citizen, I won't have to fight the Honkai, but I could be killed by it at any time.

If I want to join the three major organizations... finding them is one problem, and joining them doesn't seem to guarantee my safety either.

Anti-Entropy is the weakest, and Cocolia's in charge. That bitch causes a mountain of trouble. Will her subordinates have an easy time?

Doesn't seem very reliable.

As for Schicksal, Otto doesn't give a damn about the lives of his subordinates.

For his plan, that guy even had Dr. Magi steal the Herrscher of Death's Core and drop it in Singapore to try and create a new Herrscher of Death. That guy... no, with that guy around, nowhere is safe!

Kevin... don't even get me started.

If Su, his fellow pioneer, hadn't stopped him, he would have launched the brutal [Project Stigma] back in the time of King Arthur.

Keep in mind, today's humanity slowly repopulated. If he'd executed Project Stigma over 1,500 years ago, how many humans would the survivors have even been able to repopulate?

"Ah, this is impossible. So annoying. Joining an organization is hard, and all three are more terrifying than the last. If I'm a civilian, I'll just die whenever a Honkai Eruption happens."

"Mom, I want to go home—I really want to say that."

"But considering I have no mom and no home, I'd better forget it."

[Ding! Detecting a host compatible with this system. Beginning automatic fusion.]

Woah! It's a cheat!

[Congratulations to the host for obtaining the 'Randomly Cobbled-Together Dungeon System' 0.1ver test version!]

Wait, why does that name sound so sketchy?

Even with a cheat, I still have a bad feeling...
